Happy Lunar New Year! The reunion dinner is the biggest event out of the entire year. I want to show you how to prepare a traditional dinner for new year's eve. We filmed an entire process of the food making, the culture behind it, and the traditions. Make sure to get a cup of coffee or tea before watching - hope you can enjoy it.
Also, I am here live reading and replying to your comments! Happy Tiger Year!
Hi Everyone, today is Chinese New Year's Eve. We are supposed to have a special video to show how to prepare a traditional dinner for the lunar new year. For the reasons below, we decided to delay one day. We will publish it on Feb 1st at 10 am. This is a 1-hour long video (be sure to make a cup of coffee or tea before you start watching LOL!) We have never done anything in this length so it took a bit longer time than we estimated to edit. We are currently working on the final touch of editing and we want the video to come out perfect. Please understand. The picture is a preview of the menu so you can have an overall idea of what we made =) I am very proud of this video. We filmed an entire process of the food making, the culture behind it, and the traditions. I am very excited to publish it and I hope you can enjoy it. In this special holiday, I wish all of you 阖家欢乐,生活美满:Wish you a happy family and a happy life! 年年有余,财源广进:Wish you abundant profit every year! 身体健康,万事如意!Wish you good health and achieve anything your heart desires!
ASK ME A QUESTION - I'm thinking about making a video to tell a little bit of my story. So, if you are: Curious about my background? my life? why do I run a youtube channel? where do I live? where am I from? how do I keep myself skinny? how long is my hair? Whatever... I will collect the ones that get the most likes and may make a video to answer them. Just comment a question that you want to know about me.
While I am busy creating this video, don't forget to take a look at my last video - Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken. A great snack for watching a movie or dinner party appetizer. Hope you like it.
PREMIERE NOTICE - Hi everyone, this Wednesday morning I will be on a plane, so I can't watch the premiere with you. It's gonna be an interesting video, make sure you don't miss it LOL! This week, if you watch it live and have questions, just put the questions in the comments section instead of the live chat! When I get back online I will answer the questions!
This is the crispiest version. It's light in weight and the sauce is thin. In Northern China, this is a must-have dish for get-togethers during festivals.
This is the easiest version. The sauce is thicker and shinier. It's popular in multiple provinces in China- it has the longest history of all these three variations.
This is the most popular version that you will see in the US and other places. There's a bigger variety of ingredients (pineapple, peppers, etc.) in this dish, so some say it is more beautiful. In China, this version is popular in Hong Kong and Guangdong Province (where I am from).
Hope you give at least one of these sweet and sour pork recipes a try soon. They are all delicious!
If you haven't noticed, I'm trying to post 2 videos weekly. It's proving to be a little stressful, since I am just a one-person team (so I might miss a week here or there), but I have to do a bunch of recipes/videos to prep for my cookbook and will try to stick to this schedule:
Mondays 10:00 am (EST) Wednesdays 10:00 am (EST)
Besides that change, I'm trying to expand a little outside of YouTube this year... Hope you all like what I have in store for you. Will preview/explain soon.
For now, check out one of my recent videos that you may have missed:
https://youtu.be/_qcPIOlr7Uo - Soup Dumplings (Pan Fried) - "Soup dumplings" have become a popular word with foodies... but have you tried this style? They are popular as takeout in Chinese cities and for good reasons!
https://youtu.be/PohDhVse1EY - Bubble Milk Tea - People are addicted to this stuff in China. Chinese franchises like GongCha are even popping up in LA, NYC and other places in USA. If you are addicted, this stuff gets expensive, learn how to make it!
https://youtu.be/UCa8mN0IHow - Soy Milk - It's the best alternative/substitution cup-to-cup to dairy milk. It will give you a similar texture and nutrition.... and extremely easy to make.
https://youtu.be/lPFWvgr-R_w - The Science Behind Chinese Pickles - Such a simple "recipe", yet so complicated. If you're going to make Chinese pickles, I've done my best to include all the tips to make sure your pickles turn out amazing.
https://youtu.be/NsJFMq0NNmM - Hot and Sour Tomato Soup - If you like Tom Yum soup and you cannot find the difficult ingredients such as galangal, lemongrass, fish sauce, etc... this is a great alternative.
https://youtu.be/v2KanVGHFW8 - Hot and Spicy Crispy Beef - "Extremely hot".... to some. Others eat it like chips. Dare to try this Szechuan dish?
https://youtu.be/pETnrudTSkw - Three Cup Chicken - I got comments about leaving skin on the wings. I had some testers who had that opinion, too (before they took a bite). It actually cooks perfectly and doesn't have that "chicken skin" texture most people associate with the words. This super easy recipe is extremely delicious, too. Try it!
https://youtu.be/jnqw1hFEGXg - General Tso's Chicken - Learn how to make this classic American takeout dish... better than your local spot!
https://youtu.be/7bS44zmJ-YI - 6 Must Have Chinese Ingredients - If you're just getting started, this is a good place to start. Hope to have another ingredient video out soon... so hard to do those videos lol
Watch one of these videos and give it a shot soon! Let me know how it turns out.

My newest video is my THIRD variation of sweet and sour pork. Let me quickly explain the differences:
https://youtu.be/BAYIYDgYwfs - Northern Chinese Style [锅包肉]
This is the crispiest version. It's light in weight and the sauce is thin. In Northern China, this is a must-have dish for get-togethers during festivals.
https://youtu.be/J0N09uEPFf8 - Central Chinese Style [糖醋里脊]
This is the easiest version. The sauce is thicker and shinier. It's popular in multiple provinces in China- it has the longest history of all these three variations.
https://youtu.be/_4fFSKXIsBs - Cantonese Style [咕咾肉]
This is the most popular version that you will see in the US and other places. There's a bigger variety of ingredients (pineapple, peppers, etc.) in this dish, so some say it is more beautiful. In China, this version is popular in Hong Kong and Guangdong Province (where I am from).
