Selfish is an album about contradictions. The songs were mostly written during the pandemic and center around slow living, self-acceptance and anti-capitalism. In our society it can be seen as "selfish" to say no to a social function, to not partake in niceties like the obligatory bottle of wine to your host (who maybe would just prefer the money? or for help with errands?) I spent a lot of the pandemic examining where my time and energy was going and discovered too much of it was spent outside of my values, answering to the invisible voice of culture and fitting in. The songs on "Selfish" table concepts like professional/social competition, ageing, feeling cool and keeping your word to yourself. In choosing the title selfish my aim is to elicit an immediate reaction from listeners and then challenge it.
