Power for Parkinsons

Power for Parkinson's is all about helping people find joy in movement, but today, for the 2024 Parkinson's National Day of Action, we're focusing on a different kind of movement: the movement to better understand and address environmental risk factors for Parkinson’s disease. We're partnering with The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Brian Grant Foundation, Parkinson's Foundation, and thousands of advocates to encourage policymakers and elected officials to support the 1 million Americans living with Parkinson’s disease. Power for Parkinsons

Here at Power for Parkinson's, we are strong believers in the power of group exercise. Exercising in groups turns a challenging task into a fun one! A group setting fosters a sense of community and provides additional motivation, encouragement, and support to those exercising. With this in mind, all of our local classes in Central Texas are taught in a group fitness setting. At the same time, we work to foster the same sense of community and support in our online classes by encouraging participants to use the chat function as classes premiere and engage with each other in the comments.

Yesterday, we took an extra step toward creating a group fitness setting online by inviting three of our wonderful local participants to help us lead a Brain & Body class with PFP Instructor Polly Caprio on YouTube. Try out the class at the link below, and let us know if you'd like to see more classes like it on our YouTube channel!

Power for Parkinsons

For the next 23 days, donations to PFP will have twice the impact! It’s time to make a SPLASH!

Our annual “Ride the Waves” summer fundraiser begins TODAY and runs through August 23. During Ride the Waves, we raise essential funds to help keep our virtual exercise program free and accessible to all.

This year, we hope to raise $40,000 to support our instructor training program, host new weekly exercise classes online, and increase our program’s reach in underserved communities and around the world, and there’s never been a better time to show your support. Our wonderful participant, Joe Defilipi, and the Buena Vista Foundation have made a generous pledge to match all funds raised up to $20,000, meaning any contribution you make will have twice the impact. Go to www.powerforparkinsons.org/ride-the-waves to give!

We can’t do it without your support!

Ten years ago, our wonderful instructor, Lauren Lewis, uploaded her first Move & Shout class to the Power for Parkinson's YouTube channel. With time, experience, research, and feedback from our participants, Lauren's iconic class has evolved into something truly special. To celebrate the strides Lauren's class has made over the years and all the lives that have been touched by Lauren's work, we invite you to follow along with this fun exercise compilation made up of Lauren's classes over the years! Thank you to Lauren and all of our wonderful participants for putting the POW in Power for Parkinson's, and as always, happy exercising!
