I just want to share some insight on being patient when trading.

There are many trades that I put on that expire worthless, and they are so far that there's no point in closing them.

However, there are times when things reverse completely in the last day or two, and that's when patience pays off in a big way.

That's exactly what happened with McDonald's today, with the recent link to an E. coli outbreak. It doesn't really matter what the reason was or what the news says. All that matters in this business is that the stock moved down dramatically, allowing me to get out of my position.

I was sitting in a small one-lot position that was going against me because I shorted McDonald's from the recent run-up. I've been sitting in a straight for multiple weeks, thinking that it would die, only for it to reverse just two days before my options expire.

Simple little wins like this one is where the payoffs and learning happens.

I often see people getting stopped out of positions and then wondering what was wrong with the stock or trying to figure out the news.

The truth is, it doesn't really matter!

What matters is that you were probably positioned too big for the usual wiggle or movement in the stock.

If you're getting stopped out of positions too quickly due to small movements, it means your risk is too concentrated.

💡 TIP: Trade smaller with your position size or choose a different vehicle (stock, ETF, etc.).
