#AlcoholAddiction In my latest podcast, I opened up about something deeply personal — my father’s alcohol addiction. He’s been drinking since he was just 16 or 17, and now, nearly 50 years later, it’s still a constant in his life. I shared my trauma openly, hoping that by doing so, anyone listening who’s in the same struggle will feel less alone.

I’ve lived through every stage of this journey. As a child, I denied that anything was wrong at home. As a teenager, I hated him for not being “normal,” for making us feel ashamed. As an adult, I learned to empathize and tried to help him in every way I could. Then came the resignation, the contempt, the helplessness of realizing I couldn’t change him. And now, I’ve come to a place of acceptance. I pray for him and wait patiently, should he ever ask for help.

It’s a long, lonely road—especially when you see other families that seem happy or at least stable, even if only on social media. Talking about addiction feels like airing out family shame, and for a long time, I didn’t have the courage to face it. The shame was real, but even more than that, I felt a deep guilt, as if by acknowledging his addiction, I was betraying a man who is, at his core, kind and loving.

But over time, I’ve learned that sharing my truth isn’t about speaking ill of him. It’s about owning my own story with compassion and love. Because alcoholism is a family disease. Our lives are tied together in ways that are impossible to separate, and I can’t tell my story without telling his.

Episode 101 of my podcast, The Journey Within is all about addiction & how it impacts not just the addict, but the entire family. If I’d understood earlier that alcoholism is a disease and not just a choice, maybe I would have seen things differently. Every addict has wanted to quit at some point, I’m sure of that. But understanding that doesn’t make the pain any less real.

If you’re struggling with this in your family, I hope this episode helps you find a bit of peace. And if you know someone who needs to hear this, please share it with them.

In today’s fast-paced world, we’re constantly encouraged to move forward - whether it’s toward new experiences, relationships, or ambitious goals. The idea of “moving on” has become synonymous with success, a badge of honor in the face of life’s challenges. But what we often fail to recognize is that moving on without healing is like building a house on a cracked foundation. It may look fine on the outside, but over time, those fractures will show, causing deeper issues to surface.

Healing isn’t about forgetting what hurt you or pretending it didn’t happen. It’s about confronting the pain, understanding it, and allowing yourself the time and space to mend. Without this internal process, we risk carrying the emotional baggage from one experience to the next, bleeding past wounds into future opportunities. You may think you’re moving forward, but if you haven’t healed, you’re still tethered to the same emotional cycles that limit your true growth.

We’ve been conditioned to believe that time heals all wounds, but in reality, it’s the conscious effort to reflect, process, and release that brings true healing. Rushing into the next relationship, project, or goal without acknowledging what broke you in the first place only masks the pain. Healing requires slowing down, being vulnerable, and sometimes even stepping back before you can genuinely step forward.

So before you move on to the next chapter of your life, ask yourself: Have I truly healed, or am I just running? Because the journey isn’t about speed; it’s about the depth of transformation. Only when you heal can you experience the fullness of life, unburdened by the past and open to the possibilities of the future.

My podcast, The Journey Within(streaming on YouTube) is all about exploring the ways to become our best versions and live our best lives. If that interests you, click the link in my bio to give it a listen and do share it with people you care about ♥️.

Happy healing my lovelies ♥️

Last 3 weeks have been challenging. It was almost like life had put a big red stop sign in front of me and I had no choice but to honour it. I’m so glad that I was able to maintain a happy state of mind since day 0 of my fracture.

It happened while I was doing hurdle jump in my gym. I overestimated myself and tried the jump. Landed poorly and broke my ankle! I remember laughing so hard when I fell down and throughout the icing process while my ankle had swollen to three times its volume. I remember laughing hard when a couple of trainers lifted me(like lord Ganesha for his homecoming) to take me to my car. I remember narrating the incident to Hari while we were driving down to the clinic to get it checked. I was laughing then. Upon reaching, the wheelchair(my first time in one) became a source of absolute joy.

I know it sounds silly but I was happy and grateful for everything. I was grateful because it could have been worse. I remember talking to the doctor with a wide smile on my face when he suggested that we might have to do a mini surgery and insert a pin/small plate inside to support the bone to heal. I remember coming home and laughing ridiculously while telling the story to my house help.

I have cherished every moment of the last 3 weeks, despite the enormous pain and complete bed rest, which in my opinion, was tougher than the pain itself.

And here I am, at my work desk, enjoying myself thoroughly. Enjoying the challenges of navigating my way around in a wheel chair and keeping my leg elevated for most of the times. This experience helped me connect deeply with myself, through pain and boredom. It’s funny how I keep observing a manifestation of #TheJourneyWithin through most of the experiences that I have.

How do you deal with a painful physical condition? Let’s share in the comments?

Have you ever been here?

- You’re pouring your heart out, trying to convince a parent to get the treatment they need or helping a sibling manage their struggles, whether it’s with studies, anger, or a negative habit.

- Maybe it’s a friend you’re worried about—someone caught in a toxic relationship or battling an addiction.

- You speak from a place of deep care, hoping to make a difference. But instead of understanding, you’re met with resistance—sometimes even anger.

And it breaks your heart.

- You can see how much better their life could be if they just listened. You’re eager to help, ready to give everything you’ve got.

- But they’re not ready. And you end up feeling helpless, watching someone you love continue to struggle.

If this resonates with you, it’s time to STOP.

- Stop, because it’s draining you—sapping the energy you could use to nourish your own soul or uplift others who are ready to receive.

- Stop, because it’s creating a painful distance between you and the person you want to help.

- Stop, because until they’re ready, your words won’t reach them.

Sometimes, the most loving thing you can do is step back, preserve your energy, and simply be there when they’re ready to receive your support.

Believe me, I very well know it’s easier said than done. But it is what you’ve got to do my friend. Save yourself so that (if needed) you can save them later. If you’d like to share your personal story about this, use the comment section.

Take good care and share this with someone who is suffering the guilt of not being able to help their loved ones ❤️

P.S - the inspiration for this post came from one of my recent client who came to work with me on the emotion of GUILT.
