Efterklang's new album 'Things We Have In Common' is out now on City Slang!

The experimental Danish art pop/indie-rock group Efterklang emerged in the front half of the 2000s with an enchanting blend of atmospheric pop and lushly arranged orchestral rock elements. Efterklang formed in December 2000 when childhood friends Casper Clausen (vocals), Mads Brauer (computer), and Rasmus Stolberg (guitar) -- all three having recently moved to Copenhagen from the tiny Danish island of Als -- joined musical forces with pianist Rune Mølgaard and drummer/trumpeter Thomas Husmer. From the start, the band members took a D.I.Y. approach to their music, handling all aspects of songwriting, recording, and production in their Copenhagen practice space. Efterklang found an audience, especially in Europe, after releasing their first two albums on England's the Leaf Label; the attention led to a deal with 4AD. The band has recorded five studio albums and are currently signed to City Slang.

New song out now: ‘Sentiment’ ☀️☀️☀️
Watch the video here 🙌 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1J0H...

Today, 17 days before our new album drops, and on Rasmus’s birthday 🎈, we’re excited and proud to share our new song, ‘Sentiment’. It was the last song we wrote for the album, and it’s a special one for us. The lyric ‘everything revolves around love’ anchors the song, and it feels like the perfect conclusion to the journey we’ve shared with @rune.molgaard in writing this album together.

The new single comes with a music video directed and filmed by @lisaboa_houbrechts and Casper, who also appears in the video. It was filmed on the roof of laGeste in Ghent and features dancer @dickooumar13, with editing by Kenneth Sarup.

Thank you all for listening and supporting 🤩🙏

New single out now worldwide 🌍

We dedicate our new song to new life and new beginnings. We hope you’ll enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed creating it! Listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2novs...

“To a New Day” is the fourth single from our new album, “Things We Have In Common”, which will be out on September 27th on @cityslangrecords. Like its predecessor, this song features the beautiful voices of the South Denmark Girls’ Choir.

“To a New Day” and almost all of the songs on our new album have been written in collaboration with our dear friend @rune.molgaard. Our new song ‘Plant’ is two weeks old 🥰 Thank you all for listening and watching the video 🌱

This photo was taken at Efterklang’s Sommertræf June 2022 (by Søren Lynggaard) when we played an early version of it live for the first time.

Second from the left you see Rune Mølgaard who we’ve written ‘Plant’ with. In fact we’ve written 7 of 9 songs, on the upcoming ‘Things We Have In Common’, album with him. His personal journey during the last couple of years has formed and effected the album in such an integral way. We are so proud of him and the album and we love him very much ❤️ There is a long read on the album and Rune’s journey waiting for you in the about section on efterklang.net/about.

4th and 5th from the left you see Hector Tosta and Mabe Fratti (aka Titanic) who both have contributed so many incredible guitar, cello and vocal parts to ‘Plant’ and many other songs on the upcoming album.

Second from the right you see our dear friend Tatu Rönkkö (of Liima) who plays drums on ‘Plant’ and almost all other songs on ‘Things We Have In Common’.

Not pictured is Jarrett Gilgore who added the sax parts to ‘Plant’ 🌱🌱🌱

Our new song ‘Plant’ ft. Mabe Fratti is out now. New album coming Sep 27th!
You can listen now on all the platforms and also watch the amazing video by Søren Lynggaard Andersen & Niels Buhl Hendriksen: efterklang.lnk.to/TWHIC

‘Plant’ is co-written with our dear friend Rune Mølgaard, who co-founded Efterklang with us more than 20 years ago. Rune left the band in 2007 but has since helped us from the sidelines in composing songs like ‘Modern Drift’ and ‘Sedna’. On the new album, Rune has co-composed 7 out of 9 songs, and his personal story and journey in and out of the Mormon Church over the past many years have deeply influenced the album.

We recorded the new album ‘Things We Have In Common’ with an amazing group of musicians and it has been mixed by Francesco Donadello.

On ‘Plant’ you can hear Tatu Rönkkö (of Liima) on drums, Hector Tosta (of Titanic) on guitar, Jarrett Gilgore on saxophone and Mabe Fratti on cello and vocal.
