Thank you for voting! I’ve done a little bit of thinking and here are some thoughts that came out. As for the Motives Project part of this channel, it’s going to all stay here. I might post some extra things I found recently from the creative process, as well as my Hey I’m Out rework in the very near future.

I had a lot of fun editing videos here, and I think this will continue to be the main purpose of this channel going forwards. With AI now absorbing copyrighted material and spitting it back out with no regard for credit or appreciation of the source material, I don’t especially feel bad about chopping up movies freely available on YouTube to make art projects out of them. A lot of my song ideas first form while I’m watching movies! Unlike lostwave, all of the people involved in the movies have been fully credited (at least I hope so), leaving me in a bit less of an ethical blindspot.

Visuals have always been an extremely important part of music for me, but with the budget I have I don’t really feel the world needs 4 minutes of me awkwardly lipsyncing in some random place right now. I’ve got all the ideas and none of the gear! I don’t want to risk a copyright strike on my main channel for using these movies, even though the music will be original it might affect me in the future. I was planning to make a third side channel for this, but managing two channels already is a lot for me.

I’ve developed a real love of video editing recently, but without the means to make any cool footage I’ve kind of been at a standstill. I’m going to refine things a bit more before I get to work on my first edit, but which of these movies would you like to see edited first?

“Hey I’m Out” will probably be the last lostwave song I rework for a good long time. Once it’s out, should I just leave this channel be as an archive of the project, or keep uploading original music here and rebrand a little? The algorithm definitely seems to favour this channel over my personal YouTube, but I don’t want to spam my subscribers here with stuff they’re not interested in.

My next project is very inspired by lostwave culture and aesthetics, but I don’t want to feel like I’m using the community to promote my own music. Over to you!

I’ve just listened to my album all the way through for the first time! Things are finally happening and I’m seeing some real progress. Here is a little bit of lore and context for the project:

I was originally working on a “proper” first album, but it was taking a lot longer than I expected. I’ve got quite a strong vision for it that isn’t quite coming across with what I have so far. All of the songs on Everything’s Happening are also stragglers from various things I’ve worked on in the past, and quite a few are from Noise Bath sessions and my days writing for bands. I’m still trying to form a band up North, but life is hectic and I’m poor. Until then, I hope these 10 songs serve as a little introduction to some of the sounds I’m trying to make. I’m studying music for one more year, making a solid attempt at achieving at least a few of my goals, then I’ll reevaluate again.

I’ve noticed that some years I write more, and some years I focus more on finishing things. This year has definitely been one of evaluation and completion. I’ve written so (too?) many songs over the years, and I think now is a good time to do something with them. I have a somewhat deluded grand plan of completing 4 albums worth of this stuff, before I start work on a new self-contained project. I’m still focusing on networking locally, so I won’t be promoting this project online too much. I’ve tried making reels and such but it’s just not really my style. Thank you to everybody who’s stuck around from the Motives channel though! I really appreciate your support.

The general feeling and theme of the album is being overwhelmed/displaced/confused/detached, whilst still trying to enjoy life and make sense of the chaos. I’ve tried to create a weird anachronistic-nostalgic kind of vibe with the sounds and equipment I have available to me. Don’t let that fool you though, pretty much all of the songs are uptempo and groovy! I have always felt it much easier to express deeper/darker emotions over a good beat.

I’ve been trying to be less critical of my work, but I feel like there are still things rough around the edges I’d like to refine. Everything here has been cobbled together over about 5 years, so things are sort of all over the place (hence the name of the album). Wild Isles was made start to finish in two months, so it’s definitely a different process to what I’m doing now.

I’ve taken the skeletons of the existing demos and kept the bits I like, while replacing the guitars and vocals with new takes. I’ll probably end up taking a similar route for Primary and the band album next year, as the songs for that one are also in a similar state. I doubt I’ll ever be able to afford to record in a proper studio, so this is the best I can probably do for now. All in all, I’m pretty happy with what I’ve made so far and everything’s definitely on track for November (a deadline I have given myself to combat procrastination).

Hey, hope everyone's having a good summer!
My Ulterior Motives CD arrived and it's so awesome to finally have a copy in person, it's going to take pride of place on my shelf when I'm home. I've noticed I'm still getting comments on this channel, I've just been really busy and not checking things much anymore. As of now I don't have plans to remake any more lostwave songs, but I've been releasing some new original music finally over on my personal channel if anyone wants to have a listen. Although writing original music is fun, I'm thinking of starting up a new creative venture. Anyone have any ideas on the type of stuff I could do?
