"I felt my wife slip away from my grasp."

"Didn't think any of us would survive"

"Don't they have the data of how many people have died?"

In this #MahaKumbh, where every detail has been framed as a poster of state efficiency, where everything was counted and is countable –

from the number of special trains down to a headcount, every two hours, of those who took a dip –

when it came to the dead and injured, the count took its time.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses recall the horror they went through.

The greatest social and political capital of our time is human attention, and the challenge for politicians today is how to capture it using social media.

It was, therefore, no surprise that the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) heard TikTok Inc et al v Merrick B Garland, Attorney General on an expedited basis and even declared a verdict on January 17.

The case demonstrates how the discipline of law confronts major technological advances —a highly popular app resulting in judges diving into the world of social media regulation.

“Mahatma Gandhi amar ho gae” (The Mahatma has become immortal) — Excerpts from The Indian Express front page dated February 1, 1948

This cry was raised in one voice by a multitude of half a million mourners as red flames rose against the evening sun and consumed the mortal remains of the nation’s father.

Troops struggled hard to keep back waves of sobbing people who broke the cordon and approached dangerously near the pyre.

Lord Mountbatten and #JawaharlalNehru were among the crowds directing the troops to hold them back.

The obsequies (last rites) were performed by Mahatma Gandhi’s 3rd son, Ramdas Gandhi, according to #Vedic rites.

On January 30, 1948, as Mahatma Gandhi was walking towards the prayer mandap at Birla House in Delhi, 35-year-old Nathuram Godse came before him and pulled out a pistol from his pocket.

He fired 3 shots from point-blank range that hit Gandhi in the chest, stomach, and groin. Within 15 minutes, the Father of the Nation was dead.

Last week, #Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said #Delhi now wants “the real development model” of Dikshit and not “the false propaganda and PR model” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and #AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal.

If the party is just a pale shadow of itself in Delhi now, for many, the former CM’s legacy can’t be separated from the scandals towards the end of her tenure which were fanned by the India Against Corruption movement spearheaded by Arvind Kejriwal among others.

With its own allies choosing the AAP over it in the Capital, the Congress also remains unclear about who its chief rival in Delhi is.

Few artists have been as singularly identified with a piece of existential dread as Edvard Munch and his iterations of Scream. Despite this predilection, Munch was an artist of many parts.

“It is the freedom of speech as an overarching principle, which permits one man’s subaltern to be another man’s naxal,” a Delhi court said on Tuesday (Jan 28) while quashing summons against Chief Minister Atishi in a defamation case filed by BJP leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor.

Kapoor had moved court over Atishi’s claims that the #BJP had tried to topple the #AAP government by contacting 21 of its MLAs and offering each of them Rs 25 crore to switch sides.

The sessions court of Special Judge Vishal Gogne on Tuesday allowed the petition and quashed the summons against her. “If the interpretation of the complainant is accepted, almost every top leader of every political party in India would become liable to prosecution for defamation,” Judge Gogne said in his order.
