I’m currently in Japan and my first bowl of ramen was this Shoyu Ramen with a flying fish dashi base. The chef noticed I was watching him as he put everything together so he held everything up higher so I could see over the counter. There was a language barrier but he did his best to explain what every ingredient was.
I finished half of my ramen and he gave me a free bowl of rice. He showed me that I needed to add the rice to the broth to finish it all which I did. I looked at his English menu and told him I would be back for the Togarashi Ramen.
The next day I came back and again he showed me the process of making a ramen bowl. Before I left I took another look at the menu and he gave me his last English menu. I told him no, I wouldn’t take his last one, but he made me take it. So I insisted that he sign it lol.
Sorry for the long-winded post, but I just wanted to share my wonderful first experience having a bowl of ramen in Japan.
This was at Taikobo Ramen in Akiruno, Akigawa, Tokyo. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to stop by one more time before I leave.
Even though I’m a pretty guarded person, there’s something about being around Joanne that makes me feel safe to share my story. I’ve mentioned to her that I feel like a little part of my inner child has healed after each of our meetings. Thank you, Joanne, for allowing me to open up in this podcast and most importantly thank you for being my friend.
This is probably the loopiest I’ve ever been doing a spicy challenge. I took on the Paqui One Chip Challenge while @Jeanelleats did the Phoenix Spicy Beef Jerky. I’m not sure how we survived 😂 give it a watch and let me know what you think!
Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year 🧧 I’m currently in California spending this time with my family, and I’m going to disappear for a couple of days to eat donuts with Claire. Here are some recent pics from my trip that make me happy :)
1. Box of donuts for Claire
2. My parents trained Claire to take pictures for them
3. This one actually kind of makes me sad. While I try to find the cheapest hot dog in New York, Claire is happily eating a $10 hot dog at a festival 😭
4. My parents tearing up the dance floor
5. Day 29 of my “instant” ramen challenge (will edit the last 2 days when I get back from my trip)
Happy New Year! Please stay safe ❤️

Planning on posting Day 13 tomorrow morning! Today has been a whirlwind, but I was just able to finish filming this ramen and rice stirfry! Let me know if you have any other instant ramen ideas for my remaining days 🍜

Would you rather eat an extra sour pickle or spicy nuts?
