Last month, denise released the first Tonal Compressor and we are overwhelmed by its success.

We published a blog article and video, walking you through one of the most revered vocal mixing techniques, made famous by the legendary Andrew Sheps. Usually quite difficult to achieve, the technique is made easy by the Dragon Fire.

You can find the blog article on our website and the video on the Youtube channel of @nrec !!

Let us know via e-mail or social what other content you like us to create!

Download a FREE Dragon Fire trial from our website or get your copy of Dragon Fire now for a limited time only at 50% off: Instead of €82/$99, get it for €40.50/£36/$49.90 (€49 incl. VAT). Go Tonal!

New denise plugin release coming out today, Friday the 26th!

Today at 18:00 (Central European Time) we will be releasing our next plugin and we're kicking off this release with a live presentation and Q&A on YouTube and giving you a chance to win a free copy.

Win a free copy of the new plugin...How?

During our live release we will be answering your questions and the users of the best three questions will win a copy of the plugin!
- Send your question to contact@denise.io
- Via the live YouTube chat

We're keeping this plugin a secret until 18:00 (CET). What we can give away is that it has a push-pull graph with multi-select as one of the main functions. Also, to show off how diverse this plugin is we mixed and mastered a whole track just using this plugin (and some reverb from our perfect series). So stay tuned for for the 26th at 18:00 (CET). Subscribe to us on YouTube to be notified about the stream.

We are excited to finally announce our grand prise winner for the groove challenge!
Congratulations Min Kursitis!! He has won 1000€ of denise store credit!
Since we really liked his submission we asked him a few questions about his workflow and his background. Read below:

Where are you from?
I’m from Seoul, Korea and I’m currently living in Latvia.

Since when are you making music and what got you into it
in the first place?
I started writing songs and fiddling with DAWs since 2005 and it has always been a learning experience ever since!
Growing up in a very international community in Manila made me realise that music is a language that speaks to all cultures. The surreal experience of jamming with people with whom you couldn’t communicate in words got me hooked to music.

What inspires you the most?
I get inspired from focused listening – There’s always so much to get out of listening out for different sound design techniques, chord changes, beat elements that other artists create. I go into writing with a specific sound I’d like to try creating for that session in mind, which is why it’s really nice to have creative sound tools helping me get there in less time (and less cpu load!)

What instruments do you play?
Guitar is my principal instrument and I mostly rely on it when writing songs. I also play the clarinet, bass, keyboards and a bit of percussion for production.

Do you have a preferred music genre?
I usually listen to a wide selection of genres from electronica to classical music to draw different elements from them but lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of instrumental music featuring electric guitar as the solo instrument.

What is a crucial essential in your workflow?
I make it a point to take a step back and try to remove clutter – it could be overlapping melodies that take the focus away from the main melody, or frequency redundancies in the mix, or excessive sound effects that aren’t essential to the flow. Creating focus for the intended sound always seem to tell a better story as a final result.
A big thank you for the team at Denise Audio for this interview!
The Denise 2020 groove challenge was an exciting learning experience!

Tweakz
-creative question
q. What do you do when you are stuck in a creative process?
If I'm stuck in a creative process I try to change up my workflow by using different plugins, producing different genres or trying different techniques which keep the creative process flowing.
Listening to different genres and styles than I usually produce helps a lot because I can take some inspiration out of it and maybe incorporate this in my own productions.
I also try to have some production breaks here and there by playing video games, watching movies and living life but it's hard for me to resist doing music during those times.

This post is inspired by the oblique strategies by Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt - a card deck from the 70’s which contains ideas of what to do when you are creatively stuck. Times have changed since then and Denise is curious if the methods have too. submission: contact@denise.io

The Chronics
-creative question
q. What do you do when you are stuck in a creative process?
a. Well I got several techniques but all of them start the same way: make myself a strong coffee ❤️
After this important first step I try to figure out why I am stuck. Most of the time it is because that the leading inspiration is gone and that I need to step back and find new inspiration. I usually save my project and start a brand new one 🙂 or if I am really pissed it happens that I just delete the all project.
