OVERDRIVE

We made our 911 Hybrid video last week, before today's reveal with the full details. Somehow, we were the only ones reporting on the electrically-assisted turbos before today! Several other widely-reported rumors turned out to be incorrect. Mainly, the ICE engine is a single-turbo making more power than expected, and the hybrid system doesn't directly drive the front wheels. It's integrated into the semi-auto gearbox driving the rear or both front/rear in AWD configurations. I've updated the video description with that information

OVERDRIVE

Hi, everyone!

I’m Tiernan and I’m hosting today’s video. Figured I should do an introduction.

I manage Overdrive, alongside founder Scott Mansell. Previously, I was a writer and producer with Donut Media. I wrote 40 episodes of the science and technology series Bumper2Bumper (B2B), and the video linked here is how I met Scott. I needed an F1 expert, and I was a fan of Driver61.

I was also one of Overdrive’s earliest subscribers in 2021. Back then, the videos were pretty similar to B2B. We even released videos on the same topics within a few days of each other!

After 3+ years and 130 videos with Donut, I was ready for a change. Around that same time, Scott shut down production at Overdrive... but he had an idea: What if we made something like the original Overdrive? No expensive stunts, projects, and challenges. Get back to where we both started, making videos for people who love learning about cars. People like us.

That sounded great, so I accepted Scott’s challenge. Why is that a challenge? For one thing, Overdrive is just two people: me and Scott. When we can’t do something ourselves, we rely on a small pool of talented freelancers. Several are Donut alumni, like me.

Recreating Overdrive is also a challenge because not everyone likes the change. Since we relaunched in January, we’ve lost 9,500 subscribers. I’m sad we couldn't win them over, but I get it. Some viewers don’t want what we’re making now. We can’t please everyone, and if we tried, the videos wouldn’t be very good!

That said, Overdrive has gained 18,000 subscribers since January. I think we’re making content that is genuinely valuable for enthusiasts, and our first video has nearly 800,000 views, so we’re probably onto something.

So, give our recent videos a shot, and maybe you’ll find something interesting. If not, well, maybe next time!

Thanks for watching.

New video! Notification didn't go out, and that can't be fixed after publishing. Thank you ‪@riba2233‬ for letting us know about the missing notification!

Huge "Thank You!" to Doug DeMuro for letting us include a brief clip of the TVR Tuscan he reviewed. Be sure to check out Cars & Bids, which has sold some amazing British imports: crsnbds.com/overdrive

Also an enormous "Thank you!" to KGF Classic Cars www.kgfclassiccars.co.uk/, who specialize in unique, collectible cars. They had one of just 17 Ascari Ecosse not too long ago, and graciously allowed us to include their footage in this video. Go browse their current and sold vehicles, because they're amazing. Let us know your favorite in the comments!

“Thank You!” to the OVERDRIVE community!

Two weeks ago we released a new video, about Lamborghini's Active Wheel Carrier. That technology produces amazing results, with a few catches of course.

That video received far more views, likes, and new subscribers than we expected! Thank you to everyone who watched and gave us your feedback!

Many of you recognized that video as a throwback to original Overdrive. We first gained attention with content that was genuinely informative, for people who simply want to know more about cars. Have videos like that, which satisfy our shared curiosity, become less common? Let us know in the comments, and thanks for watching!

OVERDRIVE

Hi, everyone. This is Scott from OVERDRIVE.

First, thank you to the half-million of you who’ve subscribed since we began in 2021, it's your support that drives us. I know we haven't posted new videos lately, but the channel is still here, and I have an update to share with you.

Running OVERDRIVE for the past three years has been an incredible journey, albeit with its challenges. In 2023, we hit a rough patch with expenses nearly doubling our income. As an independent channel, that’s not sustainable.

Last November, I made the heartbreaking decision to cease production at OVERDRIVE. This meant we had to let most of OVERDRIVE's amazing staff go and significantly change the roles of others. That wasn’t something anyone wanted, but there wasn’t an alternative.

However, following recent conversations with my family, mentors, and other creators, it became apparent that OVERDRIVE could continue IF we adapt and change. That means minimal staff and no expensive races or stunts. We won’t be finding out which £2000 car can jump the farthest - not just yet, anyway.

In the coming weeks, OVERDRIVE will be making focused automotive content that satisfies curiosity and is still fun to watch. We’ll be diving into cutting-edge technology, sharing forgotten stories from automotive history, and examining the science, engineering, and design behind your car, as well as some of the most unique cars ever made. We’ll try to make that entertaining, too!

Our mission for 2024 is to make content that gives value to the community of enthusiasts who’ve supported OVERDRIVE. So, please stick with us for a little longer, your support is what drives us forward. And always please give us your feedback along the way. Ultimately, we’re relying on you to survive.

Now, we’re going to get to work creating new content to release over the coming weeks, so please look out for OVERDRIVE’s next video soon. Thanks for watching!

Happy New Year!
You tell us: *Which F1 Champion had the best 'special edition'?*
Last time, Juke-R won 'worst identity crisis' by a landslide. Top marks to ‪@EikeSky‬ and ‪@ApothecaryTerry‬ for thorough defense of their choices! This'll be a lot closer, since no car here is *clearly* better than the others...
