1.안정적인 볼륨 / Stable Volume

유튜브 기능으로 업데이트된 지는 조금 지났지만, 이 기능에 대해 잘 모르시는 분들을 위해 말씀드려요.
안정적인 볼륨 기능은 간단히 설명하자면 유튜브의 모든 영상의 볼륨을 일관되게 만들어주는 기능이에요.
조금 더 자세히 설명하자면 유튜브에서 영상에 DRC(Dynamic Range Compression)를 적용하는 건데요.
그렇게 되면 작은 소리의 음량이 커지고 큰 소리는 조금 줄어들 수 있어요. 그러다 보니 작게 들리던 백색소음이 크게 들리면서 잔잔하게 만들었던 소리가 거칠게 바뀔 수도 있어요. 물론 영상마다 차이는 있을 거예요.
소리를 듣는 환경(스피커, 이어폰)에 따라 무엇이 좋은지는 구독자님들이 판단하여 설정하시면 좋을 거예요.

며칠 전에 새로운 시리즈로 Spaceship Ambience를 업로드 했어요. Sci-Fi(Science Fiction) 시리즈로 미래의 모습으로 영상을 만들어보려고 해요. 우주선 소리에 소리가 없는 우주를 배경으로 해야 해서 사운드 디자인을 잘하는 것이 관건이에요! 요즘 사운드 디자인을 공부하면서 도전한 건데 영상을 잘 만들어야 시리즈를 이어 나갈 수 있겠죠? ㅜㅜ 많은 의견 부탁드려요!
예전에 새롭게 시작했던 Fantasy 시리즈도 계속 유지하려고 합니다. 윈터웨일은 다양한 콘텐츠를 만들기 위해 힘쓰고 있어요! ㅜㅜ

A few days ago, I started a new series called Spaceship Ambience! It’s a sci-fi series with a futuristic look, focused entirely on spaceship sounds in the silent expanse of space—so sound design is key! I've been studying sound design lately, and it's been exciting to experiment with it for this series. I’ll need to make each video great to keep the series going, right? Your feedback would be so helpful!

I’m also planning to continue the fantasy series I started earlier. Winter Whale is working hard to bring you a variety of content. Thanks for being here and supporting the journey!



3. 개인적인 근황 / Personal Updates

새로운 소리를 녹음하기 위해 외출할 때 마이크를 들고 나가려고 해요. 늘 좋은 소리를 담는 것은 아니지만, 그 과정에서 재미를 느껴 즐겁게 녹음 작업을 하고 있어요.
하지만, 원래 직업은 웹디자이너로, 프리랜서 형태로 일하고 있는데 생활비 때문에 유튜브 작업은 뒷순위로 밀리게 되더라고요. 디자인도 재밌긴 하지만, 유튜브 영상을 제작하는 과정에서 더욱 보람을 느껴 유튜버를 메인 직업으로 만드는 것이 목표에요!
그렇게 되기 위해 오늘도 열심히 노오오오력 하고 있는 윈터웨일입니다!

When I go out to record new sounds, I try to bring a microphone with me. It doesn’t always capture the perfect sound, but I love the process and enjoy the moments spent recording.

My main job is actually as a freelance web designer. Due to living expenses, YouTube has sometimes taken a back seat. While I find design enjoyable, creating YouTube videos feels more rewarding, so my goal is to make YouTube my main career!

Winter Whale is finally on Spotify! 🎉🎉

We’ve heard your requests, and now you can listen to Winter Whale on Spotify. It took us some time to find the right distributor, but we’ve finally made it happen!

Distribution operates on a pay-per-play basis, which can make it pricey to upload a large number of tracks. However, we found a way to share our music at a reasonable cost.

It's been a while since I've been back to the community. 👋🏻👋🏻

I've had a lot going on lately and haven't been able to upload videos as often as I'd like. I know some of you have been waiting for new videos, so I apologize! 😭 Here's what you need to know:


1.
[My external hard drive died the other day]
My external hard drive with all the data I needed to work on Winterwale and Summerbird suddenly failed. I took it to a data recovery company, and they were able to recover about 95% of it, thank goodness! However, I had to spend some time reworking the 5% of data that couldn't be recovered. It also took longer to upgrade my backup environment than expected.

The first time I experienced an external hard drive failure, it felt like my house had burned down. I was devastated and couldn't eat for days.

Fortunately, I think I'm mostly back up and running and will be uploading normally again soon.


2.
[On people contacting me to see if they can use my footage for free]
I receive a steady stream of 4-5 emails a month from people asking if they can use my footage on their own YouTube channels. The answer is "no." We put a lot of resources into our videos, so it's a little off-putting to be asked to use them for free. Besides, if you use other people's footage to make videos for your YouTube channel, you could end up getting your channel taken down for copyright infringement in a few years. Also, beware of free images and free videos!

[Winterwale is about to hit 100,000 subscribers!]
I'm so close to reaching 100,000 subscribers! Winterwale is almost 6 years old, and the only reason we've been able to survive so far is because of you. I think it's because of the people who keep coming back, so thank you so much.

In the beginning, I didn't know where I was going with the content. Thanks to your feedback, Winterwale has become what it is today. We're always thinking about what you would find useful, so please feel free to share your thoughts.

We'll do our best to make Winterwale the same in the next 10 or 20 years. Thank you!

최근에 다양한 일이 있어 영상 업로드를 자주 못 했었어요.
새로운 영상을 기다리시는 분들이 계셨는데 죄송해요! 😭


1.
[얼마 전 외장하드가 고장 났었어요.]
윈터웨일, 썸머버드 작업에 필요한 모든 데이터가 담긴 외장하드가 갑자기 고장 나는 바람에
데이터 복구 업체에 맡겨 95% 정도 복구하는 데 성공했어요. 천만다행이었어요!
하지만, 5% 복구하진 못한 데이터를 재작업하느라 시간이 필요했습니다.
게다가 백업 환경도 전보다 업그레이드하는 데 시간이 오래 걸리더라고요.

외장하드가 고장 난 걸 처음 겪었는데 마치 살고 있던 집이 불타서 사라진 기분이 들더라고요.
너무나 큰 상실감에 며칠은 입맛도 없었어요.

다행히 지금은 대부분 복구하고 다시 정상적으로 업로드를 할 수 있을 것 같아요.

[무료로 영상을 사용할 수 있는지 연락하시는 분들께]
이메일로 한 달에 4~5명씩 자신의 유튜브 채널에 그냥 써도 되는지 물어보는 분들이 꾸준히 계세요.
결과부터 말씀드리자면 "안 됩니다."
많은 자원을 사용해 공들여 만든 영상이에요. 그렇기에 무료로 사용하고 싶다는 연락은 불쾌하기까지 합니다.
게다가 다른 사람의 영상으로 유튜브 채널 영상을 만든다면 몇 년 안으로 저작권 문제로 채널이 정지당할 수 있어요.
게다가 무료 이미지, 무료 영상도 조심해야 해요!

10만이 되는 날이 드디어 코앞이에요!
윈터웨일 나이가 거의 6살 정도 됐는데 지금까지 살아남을 수 있는 것은
꾸준히 찾아와주시는 분들 덕분인 것 같아요! 정말 감사합니다.

처음에는 지금과 다른 콘텐츠로 방향을 잡지 못했는데요.
찾아와주시는 분들의 피드백 덕분에 지금의 윈터웨일이 될 수 있었어요.
