This is the Strong Towns movement - for those passionate about the future of America's towns and neighborhoods. Our mission is to support a model of development that allows America's cities, towns and neighborhoods to become financially strong and resilient.

When it comes to crashes, we need low-cost, high-impact changes to make our streets safer now.
Join Strong Towns and Vision Zero Network on January 15 for a free webinar about the Crash Analysis Studio. You’ll hear about key findings from the first 18 communities that implemented the Crash Analysis Studio Model, and real-world examples of how Vision Zero cities are making fast, affordable improvements to their streets.

We've officially begun releasing videos created by freelancers! Strong Towns is a Nationwide movement, and we want our channel to reflect that. But it seems our latest video got a little lost in the algorithm. So, we're shamelessly resharing here so you can have a chance to watch it this week!

Hi everyone!
We are in the process of making some big changes to the channel. Here’s what is in store:
Our movement is more than just one person, and it’s time our channel reflects that. This is why we are shifting away from a singular host (me, Mike) and moving toward a wider network of contributors — including new long-form videos featuring Rachel Leonardo, who you may recognize from our video shorts! Over the past several months, we have prepared for this transition by making small bets with short-form videos produced by Rachel and JonJon (the Happy Urbanist), and through this successful experiment, we are now ready to launch our long-form content “swarm” by handing the megaphone to you! 📣
Here’s how you join in:
📹 Are you a creator? Check out our new pitch structure at strongtowns.org/pitch
And submit a pitch to produce a video for us. If it fits the message and you’ve got the skills, we will pay for you to make it for us.
📺 Are you tuned in to everything YouTube Urbanism? Comment some of your favorite creators who you’d love to see contribute to our channel. Who haven’t we heard of and needs to be on our radar? Their content could be explainers, urbanism, transit, architecture, you name it! If they have a story that is on brand, we want to help them make it and assist their channel in the process.
We’re really excited for the launch of this next chapter alongside you all. We can’t wait to see what you produce!
Best,
-Mike
P.S. On a personal note, I have accepted a new job here in Chicago that will allow me to stay in a neighborhood I love and focus more on local advocacy. It’s been an honor creating these videos for you all and I can’t thank you enough for all of the encouragement and inspiration you’ve given me over the past year or so. You can now catch me at my local conversation in Chicago. Cheers!

We shared this video Monday, but it seems to have been lost in the fray. Since less than half of our subscriber count has seen it, I'm going to shamelessly reshare before the weekend just in case you didn't get a chance to watch this important story about Shreveport's decades-long highway boondoggle. Gave this one a new title, let's hope we can reach some more Louisianans!

Last year a few citizens of Brattleboro, Vermont submitted an application for the Strongest Town contest at the deadline. They figured it was worth a shot- sure, Brattleboro had its issues, but they believed that the work being done to make it a stronger town was worthy of recognition. They ended up winning the whole thing- not because Brattleboro is perfect, but because the people there know it's worth working on. We are taking applications for 2024's Strongest Town contest, and if your place has made progress this year we'd love to help keep it going by honoring the work that got it there!
Winners will get a similar doc with all of the unique flavor of your place, and the winning town's nominating team will get tickets to our National Gathering before CNU. Be sure to do it soon, the last day to submit is February 18!

We just hit 100k subscribers and it doesn't quite feel real- I'm just cheesin' over here. Thank you for tuning in, liking the videos, and for being part of this movement. Change doesn't come easy, but that makes the victories so much sweeter. Some bangers are on the way for ya in 2024 💪

Our latest video could have been its own full length documentary, but we've got tons of stories we also are equally excited to share coming down the pipeline (including one next week). One of the interviews I had with Dr. Berry of the Property Tax Project was so good that we thought it deserved its own extended video. This interview is a must-watch if you liked our video on regressive property tax assessments. Browse through, listen to, or watch at your leisure.
Cheers,
-Mike

Premiering Friday.
Nobody is coming to save your city- so what can you do about it? South Bend is a city of optimism; they decided that if nobody was going to save them, they'd do it themselves. People doubted for years- but South Bend has begun its resurgence. This hasn't been easy, but they've learned some lessons along the way that all North American Cities should pay attention to.
