But, chocolate isn't the only pantry essential threatened by the climate crisis. 🚨

Coffee ☕️ is Europe's most popular drink. However, the coffee plant is a fragile crop that is struggling to adapt to climate change and as a result, it's estimated that half of the plantations currently operating could disappear by 2050.

In a bid to adapt to our changing climate, some producers are experimenting with new, more resistant varieties. Our film 'The Future of Coffee' follows those using more durable techniques that protect the environment, while simultaneously championing fair trade.

Is culture under attack in Europe?

A Europe-wide alliance of over 200 artists is demanding the EU Parliament take action following a string of restrictions against the arts and far-right mobilisation against performance art.

In Bulgaria 🇧🇬John Malkovich’s recent premiere of "Arms and the Man" ignited nationalist outrage, with extremists accusing the play of ridiculing the country's heroes.

They stormed the Ivan Vazov National Theatre 🎭 where it was being shown, further exasperating the threats to the arts in a politically unstable Bulgaria.

Elsewhere, in Slovakia 🇸🇰, there have been several attacks on the cultural scene since the current government came into power a year ago.

The Minister of Culture Martina Šimkovičová has fired some of the most creative 🎨 people in the country, including the head of the National Theatre 🎭 and the director of the National Gallery 🖼️.

The government is now also responsible for which artistic projects will be supported, leading to critics suggesting the country is heading towards authoritarianism.

The world of culture wants to defend itself, so thousands of artists have gone on strike in protest. This documentary follows their story.

Today is International Migrants Day 🌎

It's a day to recognise the contributions of millions of migrants across the world, while also understanding the string of complex factors that cause migration.

Recent years have seen record numbers of displacements due to conflicts, climate-related disasters and economic pressures, as well as the highest-ever death toll of migrants in transit, per the United Nations.

Migrants play a crucial role in labour markets across the globe, filling skills gaps, driving innovation and entrepreneurship, and addressing demographic challenges in ageing societies. They boost economic growth and often drive development in their home countries, too.

A growth in migration has seen the issue being used as a political talking point in many recent elections across Europe, but the movement of people in the continent is nothing new.

Spain 🇪🇸 has introduced "paid climate leave" following the freak floods on 29 October that killed 224 people and marked the worst natural disaster the country has seen in recent years.

The new measure allows workers to take up to four days off to avoid travelling during weather emergencies and natural disasters.

It comes after multiple companies have faced criticism for making employees go to work on the day of the disaster, despite the National Weather Agency issuing a red alert.

By introducing this policy, the Spanish government acknowledges the immense impact global warming is now having on our daily lives, amid ongoing climate denialism from the right.
