Hey there! I'm JShay/Makoto. Ramen chef by day, and well, ramen chef by night too... (kitchen hours are long) In my remaining free time, I translate and try to keep up/catch up on Korone's streams.
If you have any questions, concerns, or just wanna chat, feel free to email at Jshaytranslations@yahoo.com , since I don't really use Twitter.

So I've got a dirty little secret.
Most of you probably know me for my Korone vids, but this past year, in terms of hours watched, YouTube tells me that Fauna actually edged out Korone for me. (Edit: pls don't tell Korone. I need these yubi's to translate.)
So yeah, Fauna's graduation announcement hit me like a freight train, more than any other announcement this year, but the memories made will always remain. I'll keep supporting her during her remaining time in Hololive (and beyond, if she so chooses).
Just another reminder to always cherish the time we have with our oshis, though it feels like we've been reminded of that one too many times this year.

HOLY CRAP, 100K SUBSCRIBERS!?
To me, that number honestly sounds surreal. I never even really imagined hitting 10k subscribers when I first started clipping and translating back in 2020, but thanks to your enthusiasm and passion as VTuber fans, and Korone's many hilarious moments and antics, this channel has far surpassed my wildest dreams.
So yeah, I guess I'll take this time to thank Korone, for always brightening so many of our days and being such a force of positivity. And I'd like to thank you, for sticking around to enjoy all these fun moments together. Thanks for making the rough times better, and thanks for making the good times even more amazing.
As an aside, sorry for the relative lack of videos the past week. I'm actually in Japan for vacation with a bunch of my friends for two weeks, and our schedule has been very busy. But here are some pics I took showing a fraction of what we've been up to.
Pics 1 and 2: Some sketches my friend drew for me.

Pic 4: A uniquely peculiar little Pikachu that I found at the Ikebukuro Pokemon Center

I posted a 23 minute video on Botan's 2nd CR CUP (with Korone POV)
If you have the time, please check it out here!
https://youtu.be/y6OFTMbrnv8
The normally cool Botan cries her heart out after her incredibly close match.
I don't normally enjoy covering the heavier stuff, but I think this one's important.

I posted something a little different. ...Okay, it's A LOT different.
It's about the hidden meaning behind AZKi's name: https://youtu.be/0JoWrzjnoVM
Do you want to hear my voice? Would you like to hear me sing? Did you answer 'no' to both of those questions? Well... shit. You should check it out anyways.
Also, don't worry. I'm not about to become a video essay channel. These types of videos will be exceedingly rare because 1.) I don't nearly have enough original ideas that need voicing 2.) I much prefer clipping and translating 3.) Voiced videos like these are more of an insurance of sorts against getting hit with 'reused content'.
As I mention in the video, we'll be back to our regularly scheduled Korone content next time.

CHANNEL ANNOUNCEMENT
Short version:
After (unsuccessfully) fighting against YouTube demonetization for almost 4 months, I've decided to start a new channel. It's called JShay Too, and it would mean the world to me if you could check it out and give it a subscribe.
New channel-> www.youtube.com/channel/UCUf4...
It'll still be a Korone-focused channel, though I may cover some other Hololive members as well. That being said, I'm not abandoning JShay Translations, so I'll still be posting on this channel as well.
Long version:
For a recap, my channel was demonetized 4 months ago because of 'reused content'. Specifically, YouTube policies say that 'using someone else's content without adding significant value' is a breach of the reuse policy. The policy also states, "We allow reused content if viewers can tell that there’s a meaningful difference between the original video and your video."
I still strongly believe that translations both add significant value, and that viewers can tell the difference between the source stream and a translated clip. So I've been fighting against YouTube's 'reused content' claim these past four months. This is separate issue from their copyright policy (As an aside, Hololive gives clippers permission to monetize clips as long as they follow the clipping guidelines). In other words, copyright isn't the issue here. 'Reused content' is a YouTube specific policy.
I've been passed around to more than 12 YouTube support staff and have appealed the claim 4 times. The many emails from them saying "We're on your side" and "I'll escalate this to someone higher up" start to ring hollow after you hear them for the Nth time.
Despite making my case multiple times to multiple support staff, the response is always they same:
Them: Good news! Just delete all videos that violate the reuse policy, and you can try applying for monetization again!
Me: Could you tell me which videos violate the policy?
Them: I can't do that.
Me: Could you give me just one example of a video? And why that video doesn't add significant value?
Them: I can't give specific examples.
Me: Then can you at least tell me if YouTube considers translations and subtitles as not adding significant value? If I can get a concrete answer, then at least it's something I can work off of.
Them: There is nothing more I can do for you. Please delete all videos that violate...etc
I've stayed polite with every support staff I've traded emails with, but after 4 months of rinsing and repeating slight variations of the above conversation, I'm just... so tired.
I've talked to some other translators and clippers who've been hit by the same problem, and while not impossible, it's very rare for a demonetized channel to regain monetization, no matter how many videos they've deleted. What has worked for others though, is starting a 2nd channel. These 2nd channels seem to have no problem getting monetized despite posting pretty much the same type of content as the original channel. Granted, there's no guarantee that a 2nd channel won't get hit with the same thing further down the line.
Hence why I'm starting a 2nd channel. Hopefully it works out. However, I'm stubborn and still feel very attached to this channel. So I'll keep posting Korone clips here. I'll be splitting my time between the old and new channel, so stay tuned, and I hope you join me on my new channel. I plan to do some more experimental videos and editing there, still with a Korone focus, but might cover some other Hololive members as well. Meanwhile, I'll still keep trying to get this channel remonetized. I still haven't given up hope, no matter how slim the chances.
Despite the discouraging circumstances, I just also want to take a moment to thank all you guys for being here. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect this hobby of mine to have such a big reach when I started out in 2020. You guys are the best.
Edit: Many people have suggested that I open up a Patreon or donations with Ko-fi. If you were one of those people willing to donate, then I am beyond honored and extremely humbled, but I much rather you spend it on your oshi, merch, or maybe some Hololive events. Luckily, my job pays all the bills, so I'd rather not take your hard-earned money if you could be spending it on stuff that makes you happy.
(However, I am more than willing to take ad money from YouTube. YouTube will still occasionally puts ads on videos, even if the channel isn't monetized. Just that when you're not monetized, YouTube gets 100% of the ad revenue. So if Youtube's gonna make money off my videos anyways, I'd rather get a cut so I can spend it on some sweet, sweet Korone merch)

I got to meet Risu at the meet and greet on Friday at Anime Boston! It was just for a couple minutes, but it was honestly surreal to be able to talk to her in person. My brain and my mouth almost stopped working.
Also, shoutout to the awesome Risuners I met in the waiting room!

Update on my previous YouTube rant:
So after talking to YouTube support multiple times, they promised to escalate the issue to their internal team. This is an excerpt of the email I received in response.
"I know that you have been patiently waiting for an update about the escalation that we made with our internal team for your channel [...]
We’ve included some examples of content that don’t meet these standards, because it’s seen as Reused content. This is content that doesn’t provide significant original commentary, or educational value. It may also mean that we’ve identified that large portions of your channel either completely match other content, or are noticeably similar. Examples include, but are not limited to, the following:
-Third-party videos stitched together with minimal to no changes
-Third-party content compiled without a narrative
-Content uploaded somewhere else first
-Content uploaded many times by multiple users"
One thing to note, they didn't provide any actual examples of videos that were flagged, despite me asking for specific examples multiple times. The response from their 'internal team' still feels extremely automated, so I'm gonna continue to try to get an actual human to help with a manual review, or at least someone I can make my case to.
(If YouTube's automated systems are just comparing the audio files, I can see how it'd think my videos are exact copies of the original stream/other clips, but the translations and editing I add are largely visual. I'm hoping that maybe some human eyes at YouTube will be able to tell the difference)

Just a YouTube rant to get this off my chest.
About 3 weeks ago, YouTube suddenly stopped recommending my videos to audiences (In the first picture, I took a screenshot of several videos' sudden performance drop). And new videos I post are only being shown to a small portion of this channel subscribers, and aren't being shown to non-subscribers at all. I've talked to YouTube support, and according to them, that's just the algorhithm. Not much to be done except hope it changes in my favor again.
Now just earlier today, YouTube hit me with two warnings: That my videos were 'repetitive content' and 'reused content', so they've taken away the channel's monetization status and other functions. I appealed their decision, but they immediately rejected my appeal.
So what does all this mean? Not much. I'll still post Korone translations, because it's something that I inherently enjoy doing. Money and views aren't the main reason I started this channel, but it just sucks to lose both a massive chunk of viewers and monetization. (To be fully upfront, I made around 1k USD per month before getting demonetized)
Though they did have their perks. More views meant more people enjoying these Korone moments, and monetization meant I could spend more on Hololive merch and the occasional food delivery when I'm too tired to cook. But in the end, I'll keep posting Korone translations even if there's only 10 people who enjoy the videos. I just wanted to complain a bit because it felt like YouTube kicked me in the shins twice in quick succession, and god do those shin kicks hurt.
