Patrick Hernandez is a French singer and songwriter, particularly known for his international disco hit "Born to Be Alive". Born on April 6, 1949, in Le Blanc-Mesnil, Seine-Saint-Denis, and of Spanish descent, Hernandez initially developed his musical talent in France as a songwriter for local artists, before distinguishing himself as a performer.

Hernandez signed with Aquarius Records, Vanloo's label, and together, they created "Born to Be Alive". This song, released in 1978, became a global phenomenon, ranking number one on the Billboard Dance Club Songs in the United States and in the top 10 in many countries around the world.
