Patrick Hernandez is a French singer and songwriter, particularly known for his international disco hit "Born to Be Alive". Born on April 6, 1949, in Le Blanc-Mesnil, Seine-Saint-Denis, and of Spanish descent, Hernandez initially developed his musical talent in France as a songwriter for local artists, before distinguishing himself as a performer.

Hernandez signed with Aquarius Records, Vanloo's label, and together, they created "Born to Be Alive". This song, released in 1978, became a global phenomenon, ranking number one on the Billboard Dance Club Songs in the United States and in the top 10 in many countries around the world. It was largely thanks to Vanloo's production skills that Hernandez became an international star almost overnight.
