Advice and how-to demonstrations about remodeling, woodworking and repair topics, reviews of tools and building materials, electrical and plumbing, paints and finishing, and related content from a working contractor.
Looks like this will be the last bathroom remodel of the year for me! It was a small master bath with a corner shower. The glass company will come back to install the glass walls and door.
I just finished up this built-in for a client, and I had to carry each individual piece of wood up a narrow, winding staircase in this 1750 house! Rather than assemble in the my shop, the work was assembled on the jobsite. Look for some upcoming woodworking videos related to this project.
If you watched the video on how to break down a stack of plywood into shelving units, this picture shows the end result installed in the customer's home.
Next week! A new video intended for newbies will explore how to read a tape measure, what to understand about the physical properties of a tape, and what those weird markings mean. Don't miss it...
I'm really sorry if I recently missed your initial comment or a reply. I found that youtube had inexplicably held back many dozens of comments and replies, which I just finally got today. I try to respond to viewers as often as I can, but I can't do that if I don't see the post! If I missed a question feel free to post again and we'll give it another shot. Unfortunately, the tools they give us to manage comments are pretty crude and comments do fall through the cracks.
This master bath is coming together, although I'm still waiting for a vanity which was delayed several times already. The supply chain issues of this year have meant that every project takes longer than it should!
Ready for tile! This bath remodel took a long time to get this far, since there was extensive rot damage to the floor and the layout was re-arranged. Supply chain issues have also been a problem. But, persistence pays off in the end.
Every time I think materials could not be made with less quality, I find myself mistaken! This finger-jointed shoe moulding isn't even primed on the backside. And the priming on the front is so thin it's almost useless. Yet, this is all I can buy right now locally. Funny how the cost remains the same or higher, though.
Tomorrow, October 1, I'll post a video on how to make traditional door, window and baseboard trim in your shop and how to install it using a mitered butt joint. It's fairly easy to make yourself, and it really adds a lot of character to a room. Hope you'll watch!
There is a lot of work when you use a small format tile like this! The pattern is called a "running bond" though many people refer to it as subway tile. In this case, the tile is 4x12 inches, a bit larger than actual subway tile.
