I'm a bookbinder that has dedicated himself to create artistic bindings inspired by masters of old. A time, where they managed to produce beautiful books that remain intact even centuries later. I admire the scale of these works, their rоugh structure, sincerity and undeniable toughness. Properties I strive to recreate in my personal work.

Thank you for stopping by the channel and I hope you find it worth your time!

Best regards,

I recently was featured with a "Behind the curtain" video in a local platform that showcases different aspects of culture and arts in our city: ‪@JasminBg‬ .

I just want to say it's really one of the best and most enjoyable interviews I had.

Feel welcome to check it out, there are English subtitles available.

To everybody interested,

I have re-uploaded the old videos. I apologize to everybody for the uncertainty I have inflicted upon the channel.

I will do my best to abstain from experimenting too much with it in the future. I have the following videos planned for the near future. Please, help me choose which to upload first:

The kind duo from ‪@iBookBinding‬ made a wonderful event last year! They sent out a form to many bookbinders from their network of contacts to vote on some things that happened in 2021. Including most inspiring event, bookbinding projects, etc.

I'm very happy to be named on of the most influential book makers from their list, along with my work The Superstitious Chorbaji. It's nice to see this kind of appreciation, especially from fellow bookbinders. Have a look at their video announcement regarding this.

Hey everyone,

The people form ‪@homofaber3840‬, an online platform dedicated to craftsmanship posted a short video about our work. It's a funny phone-call-style format where we basically make a tour of our workshops. I'll have some more news regarding this platform soon!

I haven't spoken much about my recent residency in South Korea. I guess I needed some time to process everything that went on and how I feel about it. The preparation for it, the time spent there and getting used to being home again is part of the reason for being so silent lately.

I arrived late October and I was immediately hit with the realization that due to the language, a large portion of what this land had to share was locked away from me. Nevertheless I was in good hands and even in the first week, I was able to visit some wonderful local craftsmen in their studios, experience the local food, visit the museums and heritage sites of the city I was staying in, meet with my international artist colleagues and experience rural life and architecture in Korean traditional villages.

This first week was more or less organizational and we were exploring the area around our accommodation, planning for the work ahead, while the studio spaces and materials for us were being prepared. We were interviewed about ourselves, our work and planned projects. We didn't really understand each other very well with the local people but I was happy that as soon as I showed pictures of my work, they understood what I was doing.

I had some trouble sleeping the first few days but did my best to stay awake during the day and try to sleep only at night. The whole trip from home from start to finish was about 32 hours in total.

I'll be making a video with some thoughts and films from my stay there. Stay tuned.

All the best,

Stopan

One of three decorated first pages for the artist book I'm working on right now.

The contents of the books for this structure are a mix of handwritten text and linoprints. For the first pages however, I wanted to include vibrant, completely hand-drawn decorations to welcome properly the reader into the experience.

They forms are inspired by similar ones drawn in Bulgarian manuscripts. I have a large collection of albums and photographs but I use them only for reference. I never copy a design, because even though there is no copyright it still feels disrespectful. I only try to get the feel of the shapes and things come naturally after that.

I'm glad to announce a small shop update happened a few minutes ago!

Check it out at: www.iostopan.com/shop/
I'm happy to say that even with a lot of hurdles, me and my dad did a lot of work this month. Apart from our passion projects we did our best to create a small bunch of our crafts we are most familiar with.

In this shop update you can expect:

◉ A humble collection of three journals named the Cottage Collection.

◉ A wonderful walnut dip pen with lots of silver inlays and hammered silver fittings named the Samodiva Spindle Pen.

◉ A peculiar pen made with a piece of driftwood from the coast of the Black Sea, here in Bulgaria, adequately named the Black Sea Pen.

◉ An oar shaped mahogany dip pen with floral silver inlays named the Greblo Pen.

The highlights of this update are really my dad's pens. Each more creative than the next. Though the modest craft connoisseur is not left behind and he or she will most likely be very appreciative of the classic feel of the Cottage Collection.

A short video showcase is also in the works. Stay tuned and wishing everyone a great weekend!
