Hellhammer existed for a mere two years, from May 1982 to May 1984. During this time, the band wrote material for three demos, one 12" EP, and the legendary Death Metal compilation album, along with a number of unrecorded songs. Formed by Tom G Warrior in May 1982, the band was initially named Hammerhead but soon renamed itself Hellhammer. After various initial lineup changes, it reached stability in 1983 with ex-Moorhead drummer Bruce Day and former Shizo bassist Martin Eric Ain. Ain had already been contributing ideas, concepts and lyrics for months and he and Warrior would collaborate many times over the decades that followed until his untimely passing in 2017. However, Warrior finally emerged with his respectful and authentic tribute to Hellhammer and the music that was an extremely important part of his life’s path: Triumph Of Death. Named after Hellhammer’s most infamous song, they have been performing select concerts since the summer of 2019.
