Turns out I’m still pretty good with a magic wand 🧙🏼♂️
We had a warming trend in Northern CA and Delta temps jumped 7 degrees. I thought my jig fish would be more fired up but instead it shut them down. It was a higher pressure bluebird sky day so of course that didn’t help. We decided to change up locations to look for more deep timber fish. The spot I had just had way to fast of current hitting the bank and in these winter months on the Delta walking speed is key. I glanced across to a slower tapering bank with weed beds out in front of it with perfect slow walking speed current. I tried fishing the front edge with no love. It wasn’t until I pitched a nail weighted Senko on a weedless Predator hook into the outter edge and it was on! Long story short, I don’t normally suggest fishing in the weeds in the winter. Here’s the kicker though, it was the only option for them in that particular area to live and feed comfortably 🤷🏻♂️

Each year after ICAST I like to go play with our inshore lures from Savage Gear. This trip consisted of two days in the Everglades targeting Snook, Tarpon, Permit, Red fish and Black drum. Then a day in fresh water targeting exotics like Clown Knifes, Peacock bass and Mayan cichlids. I brought an action camera with me and captured all three days of epic fishing!
