Team Fortress 2 fans, would you be interested in a video covering the final comic's biggest reveals and the story's still unanswered mysteries if that video released 2 weeks from now?

My next video is two things: first, a celebration of a *decade of doing YouTube!* On 24 May 2014 I released “5 Things You (Maybe) Didn’t Know About Spy” - my first video with voice over and the point where I decided to “do YouTube” with any sort of conscious effort. And now, 10 years later, I am STILL doing YouTube in part thanks to what I learned and experienced making and releasing that now ancient listicle. So tomorrow’s video is as much a callback to that seminal release as much as it is a “greatest hits” of many of the cool things that have featured on the Casperr channel over all these years… It’ll make sense once you see it!

Secondly, tomorrow’s video is the bookend for the current era of Casperr. I’m going to spend some time working on multiple videos simultaneously - an intentional effort to craft a “season” of content with a common theme and style between all the videos - so when I eventually return it will be a sort of “soft relaunch” for the channel. Still very recognisably Casperr, but with a shiny new vibe that I am really excited about creating, and I hope that you will enjoy once it’s here!

Of course if Valve just so happen to launch a brand new free-to-play class-based shooter in the meantime then I may show up before all of that new stuff is ready, but we’ll cross that bridge if we come to it 🙂

Until then, all I have left to say is *thanks everyone for a decade of tuning in* <3

*IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT TF2 SUMMER UPDATE*

Valve have now updated the blog post to remove both of the contentious phrases. "Full-on update-sized" and "who knows what else" have both been removed and replaced with "full-on holiday-sized" and "other community-contributed fixes". They are making it as clear as possible that they (Valve) will not be making content for this update, essentially confirming everything I tried to stress in my video. A shame, to be sure, but an expected one - www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=189493

*What was YOUR favourite Casperr video in 2022?* What would you love to see more of in 2023 and beyond?

I won't have anything else out this side of the new year, so I just wanted to say thank you *so much* for your support in 2022.

Despite being my lowest amount of uploads ever it a year, in was the biggest year for this channel in pretty much every other metric, which is insane! I hope that's a sign that my videos are genuinely some of the best I've ever made (they're certainly some of the ones I am most proud of), although I'm sure that some algorithm-beloved Shorts helped along the way.

Either way, this was also the year we hit *100,000* subscribers on the channel, which for the longest time I genuinely thought I would never hit, so once again a sincere and massive thank you to every one of you!

I hope you all managed to achieved something you set out to do this year, but if you didn't then don't worry, because next year is right around the corner :)

Wherever you may be in the world, I'll see you here soon for more TF2 and video gaming trivia/interesting facts/stories/whatever <3

*Sorry about the recent Short ending up in your sub feed!*

My fault - I completely forgot to untick the "send to subscribers" box like I have on all my previous Shorts.

I make Shorts based on my regular videos as a means to share my content and channel to an audience who otherwise wouldn't see it. This channel has nearly doubled in size since I started doing this, so it's obviously effective. All the same, I don't want to annoy my existing subscribers with content they have already seen, so I always untick the box that says "send to subscribers" meaning you should never see these videos in your regular subscription feed.

Unfortunately there is no option for me to associate Shorts with a long-form video or to prevent YouTube recommending the Shorts to you outside of the main subscription feed.

If I could tick a box that says "don't show this to subscribers even in recommendations" then I would.
If I could tick a box that says "don't show this to anyone who has seen the long-form video these are based on" then I would.

I do what I can to stop duplicate content for people, but I can only control what goes out to subs and nothing else.

If you get recommended a Short and you don't want to watch it then don't watch it. Hopefully the time it takes to skip or scroll past a Short is a minor inconvenience that fans don't mind.

Obviously if you do perceive this as more than a minor inconvenience I would love to know why, so please do let me know so I can understand how this impacts people.

But my bad on the most recent one - I've double checked the other Shorts scheduled to release and nothing else should appear in your sub feed.

*Thank you for 100,000 subscribers!*

To commemorate this milestone I'll be doing a Q & A - my first one in *over 5 years*. Ask questions in the comments of this post and I'll do my best to answer as many as I can in a video coming soon™

9 months ago, Valve took two popular TF2 community mods offline. Today the mod teams have both decided to put their mods *back* online because Valve hasn’t responded to them since the original takedown.

Both TF2Classic and Open Fortress are mods that are built based on reverse-engineered and leaked TF2 source code which makes them non-compliant with Valve’s Software Service Agreement. In September last year, both mod teams announced their downloads would be going offline due to “an agreement with Valve”. They’ve since clarified that this initial agreement was actually that Valve would look to produce proper, official TF2 mod source code for the teams to work with to make their mods legally compliant and even have the potential to be released directly on Steam like certain mods for Half-Life and Portal (Black Mesa, Portal Reloaded, etc).

However, since that time - and after numerous attempts to contact them - Valve have seemingly not replied to the Open Fortress or TF2Classic teams. So, the community developers have decided to make both mods available again (links below to their respective websites).

It’s worth noting that *nothing has changed* and that both mods are just as equally against the Software Service Agreement now as they were 9 months ago. It’s also worth noting that the teams are willing to take their mods back offline if Valve asks them to, but even an email sent in March expressing intentions to re-launch the mods unless Valve confirms otherwise was met with silence.

*Both mod teams express no ill-feeling towards Valve and ask that the rest of the community does the same.*

So what happens now? Well of course, people get to play these fun community projects once again! But for how long? Valve might reach out and shut the mods down again at any time, or they might reach out with the TF2 source code/developer kit that was originally discussed, *or* they might just stay silent and the mods will continue to exist just like they did before ever speaking to Valve last year.

Who knows 🤷‍♂️
