✨ FELLOW ANTIQUE LOVERS ✨
I have such a knowledgeable community here when it comes to antiques that I thought I’d call on you for some insight!

I fell in love with a pair of leaded glass windows and bought them on a whim. My vision was to build these into custom cabinet doors for our kitchen. I’m now questioning the safety of using them specifically in a kitchen.

We would be removing the glass from the frames, of course testing and taking precautions in case the paint is lead, but the actual glass and lead lines in the glass are the root of concern for if this is a safe place to use them.

The lead on the windows has oxidized and will have to be cleaned carefully and properly. Through searching around the internet a bit I’m not finding a clear answer to whether or not they would still pose a risk of lead exposure after they’ve been properly cleaned. Bummed at the thought of not using them but obviously safety is the most important thing!!

Any knowledge or insight into leaded glass windows and repurposing them is greatly appreciated!! 🤍

I take a little break after the holidays each year to rest and refocus for upcoming projects.
