Hi, friends. I am thinking of you during this holiday season and sending love your way! Whether the holidays are your favorite thing or a time that is hard for you, I am sending good wishes to you for peace, rest, and renewal.
What a dream it was to collaborate with Naomi LaViolette on our duet version of "Love Is Love (The Christmas Eve Song)! This duet version/video takes my breath away every time!
I just now read an opinion piece in The New York Times that declared poetry is dead. Ha! I laughed so hard I nearly fell out of my chair. Poetry is indeed alive and well, in fact it is bursting from my chest. It is in the sound of rain on the roof, in tiny paw prints in new show, in the mouths of young ones and the telltale skin of old ones. It is everywhere if you look and listen.
The words of poets help me when I get lost. I lean on them over and over again and they ask nothing in return, so it's the least I can do to acknowledge their aliveness!
A couple times in my life I've been fortunate to collaborate with the great poet Kim Stafford. This song was inspired by a line in one of his poems from his recent book "Singer Come From Afar"...he says "the river turns at trouble." Yes, indeed. It made me wonder, if the river turns at trouble, could this be our turning year?
What a fun time we had visiting and sharing songs at Americana Song Academy (aka song camp)! Thanks to @sistersfolkfestival and @thesourceweekly for putting this Music On The Metolius video series together! I still can't figure out how @farrenjustin can say so many words and make it look effortless! And I always love singing and laughing with the great @Dennis.McGregor . Check it out here!
