Canadian cellist Raphael Weinroth-Browne has forged a unique career and international reputation as a result of his musical creativity and versatility. Not confined to a single genre or project, his musical activities encompass a multitude of styles and combine influences from contemporary classical, Middle Eastern, and progressive metal music. As a solo artist and with his acclaimed cello/voice duo The Visit, he incorporates unusual tunings and techniques with electronic effects, redefining expectations of how the instrument should sound. In kamanche-cello ensemble Kamancello, he embraces instinct and spontaneity in the duo’s fully improvised performances. With the Norwegian progressive metal/rock band Leprous, he has successfully integrated classical-style cello playing and his own unique sound into the band’s music, both live and in studio. Raphael’s debut solo album Worlds Within was released in 2020 to great critical acclaim.
