TOMORROW, Wednesday December 18th, tune in at 8pm EST/5pm PST for the debut of our newest episode “The Most Brutal Battles In The History Of The Mountain Men”.
Perhaps no figure in the history of the American frontier is as idolized and romanticized like that of the mountain man. But the world these men existed in was a harsh, dangerous environment, one where their survival depended on their courage, cunning, resourcefulness, and their ability to coexist and intermingle with the innumerable tribes that populated the areas they trapped.
While many times throughout their relatively short history they were successful in fostering and maintaining friendly and even familial relationships with a number of native tribes, many times they were met as unwelcomed trespassers on lands belonging to powerful tribes such as the Arikara, The Blackfoot, The Cheyenne, and The Comanche.
In these clashes, the fighting was often a brutal, close-quartered affair, conducted outside the norms of Western warfare. Torture and posthumous mutilation were considered fair game, and countless native warriors and fur trappers were lost over the decades.
Sadly, many of these accounts have long been overlooked by mainstream history outlets, however, tonight, HOKC brings you this in-depth collection of the most brutal encounters ever fought between the native tribes seeking to protect their homelands, and the mountain men seeking to make a living on the outskirts of their own society.

TOMORROW, Sunday December 15th, tune in at 8pm EST/5pm PST for debut of our newest episode "Mountain Men vs. Blackfoot Warriors : Chief Eagle Rib's Revenge".
Eastern Idaho.1836.
On their way to the annual rendezvous in what is today Pierre's Hole, Idaho, a group of American mountain men cross paths with a party of native Blackfoot warriors. The mountain men give chase, and trap the Blackfoot in a small lake, with the intention of picking them off one by one.
But, one Blackfoot warrior manages to escape, and soon, Blackfoot reinforcements led by the legendary Chief Eagle Ribs storm over the hilltop near the lake, and drive the mountain men back to their camp.
Here, Jim Bridger, the senior trapper in charge, is made aware that the Blackfoot are on their way, and that an attack is imminent.
The mountain men ready themselves for battle, and Bridger rides out into the expanse of prairie between the two parties, in order to meet with Chief Eagle Ribs.
But, Bridger soon becomes concerned that Chief Eagle Ribs is attempting to catch him in an ambush, and attempts to pull his rifle on the unsuspecting Blackfoot man.
At this moment, all chaos breaks out in a calamity of bloodshed, violence and tragedy, all too common on the brutal expanses of the Northern Plains.
When all is said and done, Bridger will lose his rifle- and nearly his life- to the Blackfoot, and lifelong feud will be born.
