Perri Arlette McKissack, better known as Perri "Pebbles" Reid, singer, songwriter, writer, music producer, music executive, businesswoman, cousin of singer Cherrelle, founder of "Pebbitone Productions" and "Savvy Records" (1989), creator and former representative of the female trio "TLC" (from 1991 to 1996), evangelical pastor (under the name "Sister Perri"), minister and founder of "W.O.G.C.L. Ministries: Women Of God Changing Lives" (since 1997), ex-wife of former producer and music executive "L.A." Reid (1989 - 1996) and ex-wife of former "MLB: Major League Baseball" professional baseball player Otis Junior Nixon (2000 - 2004).
Most likely his pseudonym "Pebbles" comes from the fictional animated character Pebbles Flintstone from the animated series "The Flintstones" (1960 - 1966) and "The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show" (1971 - 1972).

▶ AUGUST 8, 1990: 34 YEARS WITHOUT BRANDON "B-DOGGS" MITCHELL.
He was a rapper, composer, writer, music producer and founding member of the group "Wreckx-n-Effect", originally formed with Markell Riley (Teddy Riley's brother), Aqil Davidson and Keith "KC" Harris (Keith joined them when they began recording their first demos, but left the group shortly after the release of their first "EP" in 1988).

Almost a year after "Wreckx-n-Effect" released their first self-titled studio album (September 12, 1989), on August 8, 1990, in Manhattan, New York, a man takes Mitchell's life at the age of 19 (this due to an argument that was about a woman). Very little is known about the murder, such as the name and identity of the killer and the alleged woman involved in the story. To this day, this case remains unsolved.

Months before his death, Mitchell collaborated on 2 songs for the band "Guy", sang background vocals on the song "Her" and worked on the production of the song "Gotta Be A Leader" with his group "Wreckx-n-Effect", both songs belonging to "Guy's" second album entitled "The Future" (1990).
When Mitchell died, "Guy" dedicated the song "Long Gone" to him (where they built him a mansion). On November 22, 1990, the album "The Future" was released.

After Mitchell's death, Markell Riley and Aqil Davidson no longer wanted to continue with "Wreckx-n-Effect", but in 1991, during the recording sessions for Michael Jackson's album "Dangerous", Michael convinced them both to release a new album.
In 1992, "Wreckx-n-Effect" released their second studio album titled "Hard Or Smooth", changing the "s" in "Wrecks" to an "x" (in honor of Mitchell).

Mitchell was buried at Rosedale and Rosehill Cemetery in Linden, Union County, New Jersey, United States (tombstone: 52•6•97).

▶ AUGUST 6, 1966: TIMMY GATLING'S 58TH BIRTHDAY.
Singer, songwriter, author, record producer, former founding member of the boy band "Kids At Work": 1984 (with Teddy Riley and Clurel Henderson), former founding member of the band "Guy": 1988 (with Teddy Riley and Aaron Hall) and former founding member of the band "Surreel": 2000 (with Ahmauta, V-McGill and Craig McLaughlan).

In 1987, Gatling met singer Aaron Hall in a shoe store (where they both worked). One day, Gatling was impressed by Hall's voice when he heard him sing and Gatling proposed they form a musical duo. Hall accepted.
Gatling introduced Hall to his childhood friend, producer and composer Teddy Riley (the Harlem prodigy), and Riley was asked to join their duo, which he eventually accepted (thus becoming a musical trio).

They would go on to call themselves "Guy", releasing their first self-titled studio album under the "MCA Records" label in 1988, selling over 2 million copies in the U.S., (being recognized as the pioneers of "New Jack Swing").
When the recordings of their first album were finished, Gatling left the band (it is said that due to creative differences), being soon replaced by Damion Hall (younger brother of Aaron Hall).

In 1989, Gatling released under the label "Tommy Boy Records" his first and only solo album entitled "Help" (album without much success); Gatling then went on to compose, write and produce hit songs for other artists such as Christopher Williams, Stephanie Mills, Keith Sweat, Jasmine Guy, and others, (along with songwriter, producer and session musician Alton "Wokie" Stewart).

The duo worked with Bell Biv DeVoe on their 1990 debut album "Poison" (featuring "When Will I See You Smile Again?" and "I Do Need You"), and with Ralph Tresvant on their 1990 self-titled debut album (featuring "Last Night").
Congratulations, Timmy Gatling!

¡Muchas felicidades, Timmy Gatling!

▶ JUNE 7, 1956: L.A. REID 68TH BIRTHDAY!
Antonio Marquis "L.A." Reid: drummer, songwriter, writer, music producer, record executive, "A&R: Artists and Repertoire" representative, former president of "Epic", "Island Def Jam" and "Arista Records", former founding member of the bands "Pure Essence" (1973 - 1981) along with Kevin "Kayo" Roberson, and "The Deele" (1981 - 1987) along with Babyface, Carlos "Satin" Greene, Darnell "Dee" Bristol and Kevin "Kayo" Roberson, also, was a co-founder of "LaFace Records" (1989) together with Babyface, and co-founded the record label "Hitco Entertainment" (2017).

Reid began his musical career in 1973 as a drummer and percussionist in a local Cincinnati, Ohio band called "Pure Essence". The band only released two singles in 1976 titled "Wake Up: Parts 1 And 2" and "Third Rock" under the "Mantra Records" label, achieving limited regional fame during that period. Former baseball player Dave Parker (then of the Pittsburgh Pirates) partially financed the group, which helped them record precisely those 2 singles.

In 1980, "Pure Essence" underwent several personnel changes, some of the remaining members of the band had moved to Indianapolis, including Reid, Kevin "Kayo" Roberson and Steve "Tuck" Walters. The group, now called simply "Essence" worked the local Indianapolis club circuit, playing 4 shows a night, 6 nights a week. Reid, apart from playing drums, was in charge of directing the band, writing songs and maintaining peace within the group, but it was not long before the band disbanded in 1981.

Reid, Roberson and Walters met local singers and musicians at the time: Carlos "Satin" Greene, Darnell "Dee" Bristol, Stanley "Stick" Burke and former members of the band "Manchild": Babyface and Daryl Simmons. From there they joined together and created a new band which they named "The Deele". During the early days of The Deele, "Stick" Burke and "Tuck" Walters left the band and The Deele continued without them. They released 4 albums in total: "Street Beat" (1983), "Material Thangz" (1985), "Eyes Of A Stranger" (1987) and "An Invitation To Love" (1993), all released under the "Solar Records" label.

Their third album "Eyes Of A Stranger" turned out to be a success thanks to its singles "Two Occasions" and "Shoot 'Em Up Movies", which brought them great recognition. After that, in that same year of 1987, Reid and Babyface left the band and joined as a songwriting and production duo, with the help of Daryl Simmons. During the year 1987, Reid and Babyface worked for some artists and groups, but they were unable to achieve super-relevant hits nor did they have any luck with job opportunities, being rejected along the way by several artists and record labels.

The duo would not achieve the desired success until 1988, when Louil Silas Jr. (president of "MCA Records") gave them the opportunity to work with a young singer who also yearned for musical success, it was Bobby Brown (former member founder of the successful youth group "New Edition"). Bobby told the duo about Teddy Riley's New Jack Swing, whose musical genre he wanted to incorporate into his next album, the duo began to work, writing and producing most of the album, ultimately obtaining "Don't Be Cruel" (1988), whose album became an international success, giving recognition to Bobby and the production duo.

From there, the duo became pioneers of New Jack Swing and also, one of the most successful and important composition and production duos of the late 80s and the first half of the 90s, they created the biggest hits of the New Jack era, competing with Jam and Lewis (former members of "The Time") and with the creator of the genre himself: Teddy Riley (from "Guy" and "Blackstreet"). In 1989, the duo founded their own record label: "LaFace Records" (subsidized by Clive Davis' "Arista Records"), and in the process they were joined by Daryl Simmons and Kevin "Kayo" Roberson (who also worked as a successful duo under the label "LaFace").

Reid worked on Bobby Brown's second album, "Don't Be Cruel" (1988), on Johnny Gill's 1990 album, was credited on Ralph Tresvant's 1990 debut album, worked on Bobby Brown's third album, "Bobby" (1992), on Bell Biv DeVoe's second album, "Hootie Mack" (1993), and on Johnny Gill's album "Provocative" (1993). Congratulations, L.A. Reid!

▶ 7 DE JUNIO DE 1956: ¡CUMPLEAÑOS NÚMERO 68 DE L.A. REID!
Antonio Marquis "L.A."

¡Muchas felicidades, L.A. Reid!

Albert Damion "Crazy Legs" Hall: singer, dancer, songwriter, writer, music producer, drummer, younger brother of Aaron Hall, friend of Teddy Riley and member of the band "Guy" (1989).
Damion began his musical career in 1989 when Timmy Gatling (original founding member of "Guy") left the band. Teddy Riley and Aaron Hall decide to bring Damion into the band, becoming the new permanent member of the group.

At first, Damion served as the drummer and backing vocalist for "Guy", but soon became the band's lead dancer and third vocalist, providing backing vocals for the song "My Fantasy" (1989) and singing on some of the songs on the album "The Future" (1990) as lead vocals.
Her nickname "Crazy Legs" is due to her incredible agility and quick movements when dancing. His dancing skills were used in some of the music videos for "Guy" and in the band's tours and live shows, where Damion surprised audiences with his leg movements.

In 1994, Damion released his first and only studio album to date titled "Straight To The Point", released under music executive Louil Silas Jr.'s "Silas Records" label in association with "MCA Records". Their album featured writing and production by singer-songwriter Brian McKnight, Tricky Stewart (who had worked with Bobby Brown in 1993) and Bryan Loren (who had worked with several members of the Jackson Family, including Michael Jackson).

▶ HAPPY 56TH BIRTHDAY ‪@OfficialAlBSure‬ (JUNE 4, 1968).
Albert Joseph “Al B. Sure!” Brown III: Singer, rapper, songwriter, music producer, radio host and former record executive. "Al B. Sure!" gained fame and recognition thanks to his first debut album “In Effect Mode” (1988) under the “Uptown Records” label / distributed by “Warner Bros Records”.

Its beginnings date back to 1987, when it participated in the “Sony Innovators Award” (an annual talent exhibition that rewarded "promising people"), where music producer Quincy Jones served as a judge. In that exhibition, Quincy ended up choosing "Al B. Sure!" as the first winner of the contest. Benny Medina (vice president of “Warner Bros Records”) offered him a record contract to record his debut album, and he accepted.

"Al B. Sure!" started in the music industry in that same year, 1987, singing backing vocals on the debut album of Heavy D & The Boyz (this was because he was a childhood friend of DJ Eddie F, a member of the group). That friendship led him to meet music executive Andre Harrell, who signed him to his new label “Uptown Records.” In 1988, "Al B. Sure!" sang backing vocals on the song "You Can Call Me Crazy" from the first debut album of Teddy Riley's band "Guy".

In that same year, 1988, his first album “In Effect Mode” was released, produced by his cousin Kyle Albert West (who became another prominent New Jack Swing producer) and Teddy Riley (father and creator of New Jack Swing), becoming a great success and selling more than 2 million copies in the United States. This gave "Al B. Sure!" a huge success in the music industry, being one of the most important balladeers of New Jack Swing in the late 80s and early 90s.
Congratulations, Al B. Sure!

¡Muchas felicidades, Al B. Sure!
