Kumu Kahua Theatre is the only theatre in the world devoted solely to creating, supporting, and showcasing original works of regional theatre.
Founded in 1971 by a group of graduate students at the University of Hawai‘i, Kumu Kahua's original goal was to produce locally-written, experimental works. 45 years later, Kumu Kahua has helped develop more than 200 original works that have influenced hundreds of actors, playwrights, directors, technicians, and community members throughout Hawaiʻi, the Pacific Rim, and beyond.
Kumu Kahua Theatre: Plays about life in Hawaiʻi. Plays by Hawaiʻi's playwrights. Plays for Hawaiʻi's people.
