Data Science Summit - 2020

The Columbia Mailman School of Public Health, in partnership with the Columbia University Data Science Institute, held the inaugural Data Science for Public Health Summit on January 17, 2020. The Summit brought together representatives of schools of public health across the country to shape the future of public health applications of data science. The Summit addressed the unique features of public health that demand tailoring of data science approaches. For example, participants explored the ethical issues surrounding the use of data science in population health, educational needs for MPH and PhD students and for the existing workforce through continuing education, data analytic workflows for wearable devices, social media and mental health, and machine learning and artificial intelligence to study disease outbreaks and population health trends.
