On Aug. 5, 2014, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and the National Association of Pipeline Safety Representatives held a public workshop to gather and disseminate information on the state of the art of crack detection in hazardous liquid and natural gas pipelines. Operators and regulators offered perspectives on the challenges involved with detecting and characterizing crack-like defects, including environmentally assisted cracks and cracks with corrosion.
