Occupy Skid Row

LACAN, Occupy the Hood and Occupy Los Angeles are dedicated to examining the daily injustices faced by, and the harassment of, Skid Row residents due to the implementation of the 'Safer Cities Initiative' - and how we as a coalition can fight back. The Safer Cities Initiative was implemented in 2006 by the LA City Council and LAPD, at a cost of $6 million dollars a year. Safer Cities is being used to criminalize the homeless in an effort to move them out, and gentrify the downtown area. Increasing the police presence to a level that rivals Baghdad, and giving police the ability to make arrests for such minor 'crimes' as sitting on the sidewalk, tying your shoelaces or peeing in an area which has no bathrooms, SCI has taken the prejudice against, and harassment of, Skid Row residents to an unprecedented level. Let's educate each other and forge a coalition that can fight this injustice. Occupy LA, Occupy the Hood and LACAN occupy Skid Row Friday Feb 24 and Sat Feb 25 to show solidarity.
