Almost all life on Earth is solar-powered. Plants, algae, and some bacteria capture light energy from the sun and convert it into chemical energy in a series of reactions called photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a process that nourishes almost the entire living world.
This animation allows students to explore and learn about the process of photosynthesis and the structures that carry it out, while focusing on the flow of energy and the cycling of matter. After providing an overview of photosynthesis, the animation details both the light reactions and the Calvin cycle by zooming into the cells of a leaf and then into a chloroplast to illustrate where and how these complex reactions happen.
