Northern Tool + Equipment is seeing double. We’ve invited 2 high schools to step into the ring for an exciting build-off: 2 teams, 2 engines, 2 celebrity mentors, and 2 rat rod go karts, to take place during the 2023-2024 school year.
This first-of-its-kind build-off between two Minnesota high schools: Minneapolis Public Schools and Lakeville North will be incorporated into the schools’ CTE programs and give students a unique opportunity to explore what it would be like to have a career the trades.
Both schools will spend the year building rat rod go-karts using a 740cc NorthStar engine with the guidance of celebrity mentors NASCAR legend Richard Petty and celebrity bike builder Billy Lane, and additional support from Northern Tool engineer Matt Fronk, YouTuber Dylan McCool, and Pinstriper Cliff Anderson.
Next year, the karts will be unveiled at the 50th Anniversary of MSRA’s Back to the 50’s.
The build-off is part of our Tools for the Trades™ program and the participating schools will receive a large donation of Professional Grade tools and equipment, including equipment from build-off sponsor Ingersoll Rand to complete the build!
Northern Tool + Equipment’s Tools for the Trades™ program is designed to address the shortage in skilled trades workers by helping schools fuel interest in trades careers. Learn more about Tools for the Trades here:
