Steve Watts - Live Archives - Electronic Music - 1982 - 2005

LIVE ARCHIVES is a collection of spontaneous, improvised electronic music created by composer Steve Watts between 1982 and 2005, edited, remastered and spread over 42 albums of mind bending sonic exploration. Nearly 100 hours of music was produced, programmed, performed, and recorded to *TDK Cassette, has been selected, edited and re-mastered over a period of 6 years, and is presented here for the first time. The original tapes have been edited and re-mastered in order to retain the sound and feel of the original performances and analogue recordings as much as possible, whilst aiming to capitalise on current digital technology in order to provide high audio fidelity. The vast majority of the recordings contain no overdubs whatsoever, only utilising editing to remove technical issues or sections of the performances which fall below parr. A small minority of the tapes are demos and experiments for initial album ideas and these contain tape overdubs or early tape/computer multi-tracking. The keyboards, synthesizers, samplers and computers used over the 23 years have been documented as closely as possible, as have some of the more emotive, strange, and bizarre situations which has driven the creation of the music, and this will be additionally published as the albums are gradually released over a period of time. All albums will be available on YouTube for free. Higher quality pay-only releases (including exclusive additional tracks) will be available on various formats in the near future. Authors Note and a Word to the Wise : There is no initial design behind these recordings. No desire to please or to implement some form of popular commercial viability. Each album represents an honest and directly human emotional document expressed via the exploration of technology and music, presented in real time with little or no censorship, and often under the influence of powerful external forces , circumstances, and altered states of consciousness way beyond my control. Some of the work is quite beautiful. Some horrific. Some of the music is extremely positive and spiritually uplifting. Some is depressing, dark, and sometimes quite terrifying – the journey is yours to navigate - and yours to own, should you pay the price of travel. Enjoy the trip.
