Last week myself and two other YouTubers (Apbassing and The Wooded Beardsman) and headed out to spend 5 days of what turned out to be more survival then just camping on sunset lake in Vermont. We wanted to do it more bushcraft style camping building shelters and sleeping on spruce bows in front of a central fire. But just like any good plan it fall apart when we showed up at our destination and found the lake had 3 inches of slush on it. According to the weather report it was not likely that the conditions would change so we made the best of it and set up a shelter with tarps and cots and a hammocks. This kept us of the slush when sleeping but the rest of the time it was a task to move around like alway walking on a soft sand beach. We brought some food but mostly just ingredients to add to our meals so we need to catch fish to round out the dinners. Once again plans and reality didn't line up as we had hoped.
If we can catch perch we can cook it. This may not be my usual Survival challenge more of a cross between a catch and cook and camping. So we are not going to turn our noses up at some Perch or any other pan fish. Apbassing and I decided to head out to the middle of the lake where there is a sandbar and see if we couldn't find a more consistent bit.
Building an igloo out has been a dream of mine for some time. But the snow around here is not quite right for it so I came up with the idea of building one out of solid ice cut from the lake. And we are going to do it!
