T.Rex

The T.Rex album released on 1 March 1974 was intended to be called A Creamed Cage In August, with the band name of Zinc Alloy and the Hidden Riders of Tomorrow. However, EMI rejected the idea and so three times Grammy Award winning art director, John Kosh, had to amend the artwork to include “Marc Bolan & T.Rex” on the corner.

This cutting from Superstar & Music World magazine, February 1974, confirms the story. Which name do you prefer?

Made absolutely no difference - perhaps the best album Marc ever released - I don’t care what these “non fans” say - Marc at his absolute best 🎸🎸

A Creamed Cage in August?, lol. Have to say that, Zinc Alloy...was the better choice, great album too. Honestly though, Marc could call his songs and album titles anything he wanted and I'd love it. Life long Marc/T.Rex fan, I loved his way with words, pixie poet that he was. Always keeping a little Marc in my heart.💖

I saw the band on the Truck Off UK tour in January 1974. The promo poster for the tour stated it was Marc Bolan & T.Rex appearing as Zinc Alloy & The Hidden Riders of Tomorrow.

Pisses me off when they say his songs all sound the same, The Beatles early songs sounded the same, nearly every famous band had "a sound". With zinc alloy if you removed the vocals no one would say it was T.Rex.

Not Marc's best album but it does contain 3 of his greatest tracks; Venus Loon, Change and Carsmile Smith & The Old One.

TANX, it seems, was the last T-Rex album that represented the full artillery of the band. And even though subsequent releases contain some notable songs, the T-Rextasy phase, in which Bolan could seemingly do no wrong, had passed.

I fell in love with the Marc singing "Deborah" when T.Rex still was acoustic, poetic & mystic 💖 the beginning of the electric period was nice too, but later on when it became glam rock, with Gloria, didn't like it 🤷🏼‍♀️ But still having Marc in a soft & tender place in my
