HAPPY PRIDE MONTH! (Art my me) Wanted to repost this (since it’s actually pride month now) and because a lot of people kept asking why the black lesbian flag exists (that’s the flag in the background) so here’s a history lesson:
Black people are one of the main reasons pride month exists. Marsha P. Johnson (black transwoman) was an important leader in lgbt rights and a black lesbian (Stormé DeLarverie) is credited with starting the stonewall riots which gave us pride month. Also the experiences black lesbians go through are much different than other races, trust me I’ve lived it. We’re often excluded from lgbt spaces, places where we should be able to socialize safely but even gay people can be racist. The flag is basically to say hey we exist and we’re important to the community too. You should look into intersectionality if you want more explanation
