When it comes to travel, I obsess over planning and packing. I have a trip in October that I've already been planning for a year. I have an entire excel workbook with tabs on budget, itinerary, packing list, weather, etc. There's no way I'm forgetting anything that important! (I probably just jinxed myself)

I wasn't flying internationally, but about 3/4 of the way to the airport, I realized that the bag with passports and cruise documents was still sitting in the kitchen. We turned around, drove home, got the bag, drove back, parked in a more remote lot than anticipated, and both we and the checked bags made the flight.

I left my passport at the Staples store the night before my flight to Europe. At the time, I didn’t know whether I lost it in the store or in the parking lot. I had to go to the store the next morning when it opened, praying someone turned it in. The store manager opened the door and I asked about my passport. Luckily he had it in the office safe. Good thing my flight wasn’t until 1:00pm in the afternoon

I've never forgotten it, but I have nightmares about it fairly often.

I was told this 50 years ago: the first thing you pack is your passport and the last thing you check for is your passport. I've forgotten things when traveling but NEVER my passport.

i haven’t gone international flight, but on cruises. one of our friends has forgotten his twice, so we make a habit that when everyone is in the car to leave, everyone has to get out their passport and wallet and show it. also my wife left her phone in the cabin on our first cruise because she went back to the room at the last second and set it down. now everyone has to show their phones when we’re getting on the elevator with our luggage to disembark

All my trips start with my passport first. I pack my personal bag first and the first in it is my passport.

No, never!! I get so paranoid about those things. Phone, ticket, passport, money, and house keys! Just to think of the traffic to & from the airport after forgetting your passport and then most likely miss my flight ✈️. Oy!

I'm extremely paranoid about such things. I'm a big believer in not carrying around too much stuff in case I lose track and forget something. Because I will.

Technically, yes but actually no. I live in Switzerland and i was traveling to Portugal (technically international since Switzerland isn't even part of the EU). I wanted to bring my passport even though my ID would have been enough. Turns out they didn't even want to see my ID.

There are only four things that I make sure I have with me upon leaving the house when traveling abroad - passport, money, mobile phone, and credit cards. Other items that i might forget may be purchased in my destination if really needed (I just visit urban areas, so getting essentials is easy).

On travel days anybody can take one look at me and find me mouthing my mantra "Passport, Wallet, Phone" over and over again, all the way from home to my destination.

I check my passport, wallet, and phone 100 times before leaving the house and on the way to the airport.

I check that I have my passport so many times, I am worried about leaving it behind just because I check so often.

I recently did this...we got a call on a Sat 10 am that my MIL had passed in thbnighyband we booked a 5 am flight for Subday morning. Everything was so last minute and ibwas worried about my husband that I totally forgot it. Thank goodness he asked me ...in fortunately it was when we were already almost to the airport (and it was snowing!). We had to turn around and drive 30 mins back home to get it. Thankfully we did make it back in time for the flight (barely!) but my husband was NOT happy with me. He opted not to sit next to me on the flight and we barely spoke until the next day. I felt SO BAD and understood but I was mentally beating myself up and punishing me more than he could. 😢😥

I grew up in the US as a Canadian. Always crossed border by car. I had a green card, no passport. Fast forward many years. Grandma turning 90. I decided to surprise her, so I booked a flight. FORGOT that I now needed a passport (post 911, and I’m an adult, in a plane.) They let me go, warning me I might not get into Canada or back into the US. No real issues getting off the plane (well not too bad), but warned I might get stuck returning home. Oh boy, that customs person gave me a really bad time. Once I explained the situation, especially the part about growing up in the US and Grandma turning 90, he relented and told me not to try it again.😁

I double, triple, and quadruple check my luggage. The most important stuff goes in my personal item. I check it's all there when I get in the car. I check again when I go to leave the car. I check again when I get inside. Once I'm through security it stays deep in my bag so it can't possibly get lost. It may be an abundance of excessive caution but I'll never end up in a bad situation because if forgetting something.

During a university summer vacation, I rode my motorcycle 2,000 miles to an unfortunate funeral service of a relative. I rode 1 mile and turned around, retrieved my passport, then started the ride over. Why did I get my passport, I don't know. The day after the funeral, a family friend said he had friend who had a non-refundable cancellation for an international charity work trip building a community center. The ticket would have gone to waste. Well, guess who had a passport in their pocket? Me! And I had the time, so I spent 10 days pouring concrete in a Central American jungle.
