Rocky Kanaka

I need to update you on Cinder, the Terrier shelter dog that came in emaciated and likely used for breeding. So many of you have been in full support of her journey, and like me saw how special she was immediately.

I often get the question in interviews of how many dogs I’ve saved. Immediately I work to shift the conversation to the dog we're all helping at that time because what matters most is the dog we’re showing love to at that moment. And in my experience it’s rare that one person saves a dog. Typically it’s a team effort of rescuers, good samaritans, settler staff, volunteers and so on. When I sit with a dog I have no goals because sometimes I lose them. Instead I focus on the love and compassion I can give the dog in that moment. I hope that if I can give them comfort in their lowest moment they will at least know true love.

Cinder’s white and red blood cell count, along with her weight, was rapidly declining despite everything they tried. She was spoiled with rotisserie chicken whenever she wanted it, and had her receiving all necessary medical care, but her condition was too far gone, and she had stopped eating entirely. Surrounded by her foster family and fellow dog friends, she passed away peacefully.

I want to say the team over at I.C.A.R.E Dog Rescue did an incredible job caring for her. If you caught my most recent Pupdates video, you’ll even see her first tail wag. They really made her feel loved - something she was deprived of for who knows how long wherever she came from, and I truly believe they accomplished their goal of restoring her faith in humans in the short time she was with them.

Although she has passed, we will not stop fighting to get to the bottom of Cinder’s case, along with all the other Terrier’s cases and find out where they all came from. We’ve got a plan behind the scenes that we won’t share just in case the responsible party is out there watching/reading. #JusticeForCinder

While the passing of these special dogs hurts, this one hurts especially hard. Sweet Cinder. Thank you for showing her love.

So thankful she didn’t live her last moments in a poop filled cage alone. She was able to be rescued and experience comfort and care, a groom by Mel and taste her first treats. 💕Thank you for making her last days good ones

I'm so glad that Cinder had love before she passed. Along with the green jacket Mel put on her. Thank you Rickey, Kelly and the whole team for giving her love.

Where I come from, Salzburg, Austria you have to go to school before you can have a dog, then your dog has to go to training, then you and your dog go to school and you get a license to own the dog. I have Never seen a stray there. People spend a lot of money to be a dog owner. I hope it's still that way. Thank you all for what you do for these poor precious fur babies ❤️ Happy New Year!

So sad! My heart aches for how she suffered that her body that carried her sweet soul got so depreciated. So grateful to you Rocky and all your staff and animal lovers that that gave her the care, support, compassion and love that had been missing her whole life through. Her soul is set free from a body that would no longer hold her. She goes over the rainbow bridge knowing love! Thank-you for sharing! ✨🙏

Oh Rocky, such a sad loss. Bless you for showing her the love and care she deserved, even if it was only in her final days. She knew. You could tell she knew you were there to help her.

We need to take those people into jail to pay a maximum penalty.

This is such hard work for so many volunteers, especially when faced with the sadness of death. Thank you all for the love you invested in Cinder - and other dogs in similar circumstances - and allowing the end of life for these dogs to be showered with love. All living things deserve dignity and respect.
