Back in 2019, I was at Taj, Mumbai for a meeting. Post-meeting, I strolled around the corridors and casually decided to check out the swimming pool area. There, in a corner, Mr. Ratan Tata was having breakfast and conversing with someone.
For a moment, I couldn't believe it. No security, just hotel staff nearby. I mean look at my luck, I was visiting Taj Mumbai for the very first time and I was there just for an hour. After confirming it was indeed Mr. Tata, I knew I couldn't miss this opportunity. I wanted to walk upto him and tell him how much I admire him and also ask him for a picture with me.
I rehearsed my lines, waiting for the time he finishes his breakfast. After he finished breakfast, I gathered the courage and approached him.
"Hello," I said, smiling.
He turned left and replied with a smile, “Hello”
But then, I froze. My rehearsed lines vanished. A foreign guest intervened, requesting a photo, and Mr. Tata graciously obliged before departing.
Rest in peace, Mr. Tata. Your impact on Indian business and philanthropy will forever be cherished.
