I want to announce that from now on I will not post any more videos on this channel. A big reason is that the interest in my videos has decreased significantly in recent years. It became clear when I started uploading music from Shadowlands in the fall of 2020 and I noticed that the videos were not getting nearly as many views as before when new expansions came out. The trend continued and when the next expansion came, Dragonflight, I got very few views on the videos from that expansion as well. Now that a new expansion is on the horizon, I feel that it's not worth spending a lot of time and work on new videos if there is no interest from the viewers.
The fact that the number of viewers has decreased in recent years is due, among other things, to the fact that YouTube as a source of entertainment is no longer dominant. Today there are lots of different social media apps that compete with YouTube and most people get information and entertainment via their smartphones. When I started the channel in September 2010, few people had a smartphone. The PC was still the standard for all digital information and the place where you played games, listened to music and watched YouTube, which was extremely popular at the time.
Another change is that in recent years Wowhead has started uploading music from World of Warcraft on YouTube and it has become kind of an official source. Which is actually a good thing, one of the reasons I started this channel was because there was no large or official channel that had collected the music from World of Warcraft. Add to that a number of smaller YouTube-channels and the music on Streaming services and you realize that the market is over-established.
This channel will remain and I hope it will be a source of joy where you remember the music from World of Warcraft through all these years. I will not stop playing and look forward to the new expansions that will come. See you in Azeroth!
