In your opinion, can rich people get away with crimes?

I'm working towards my PhD in Forensic psychology and a reoccurring theme I've studied is, if the punishment for a crime is a monetary one, then it's only illegal for poor people.

How many bank CEOs went to jail for the sub prime loan schemes that led to the 2008 crisis?…or did they get billions from congress and go about their day?…

Almost always. The only time they really go down is when they rip off investors or other rich people. It’s the only crime they can commit.

I knew an attorney for B of A during the real-estate crash of 08'. I was a loan negotiator that worked to help people save their home from foreclosure during the crisis and law changes. The things those big institutions got away with, the absolute destruction of peoples lives was on a level I hope is never allowed to happen again. Many of those in the large block sales industry should have been sent to prison. Not allowed to file bankruptcy or get bought out. Truth is so much uglier than fiction.

The question shouldn't be "Rich", it should be "Powerful". They rarely see justice. But having the resources to buy people in power is second best.

O.J. is a prime example of one. On the other hand, poor can get away with crimes too. By the clerical errors, by luck, by the victomhood mentality by which they manipulate. Goes both ways.

I'd say so far we've been blatantly seeing that happen with our previous and current election.

Depends on how rich. Likely won’t see Soros, Kochs, Rothchilds, or Vanderbilts getting charged.

They have the advantage of being able to spend whatever money is necessary for the best lawyers and the best experts. The right to representation by an attorney is a recognition that such representation is required for a fair trial. It glosses over the fact that "justice" requires more than just representation, it requires adequate representation.

With the the current bail bond system and the cost & back door elbow rubbing of lawyers......YES! 💯

"Rich" folks can afford better attorneys than "Regular" people. Proven fact......

I think often they will use their money to get away with crimes, and should they be able to? Absolutely NOT!!

Only when they are alive. After that it's God's judgment. And you can't evade that.

@lolrentz

Yeah. They can afford the best lawyers to help in their cases and can easily get someone to bail them out, especially if they promise to pay that person back.

Especially politicians.

I think the more money a person has, the more things they can get away with. As far as paying the proper person to "make whatever it is they had done go away" and be hidden.
