Hey y'all~ So, as some of you know, I don't upload on here very often, mostly because I'm generally working on multiple projects at the same time, most of which aren't videos!

But also, I have a bit of an anxiety around feeling like I have to meet the quality bar I've set for myself with some of my videos, like the spline video or the bézier video. I find myself wanting to make a new video, but then the amount of work it would entail piles up in my head if it has to meet the same level of polish, and it suddenly feels scary to take on at the same time as all my other projects.

Similarly, I might have a conversation with someone on my stream, but then I don't upload it on here because I worry people aren't interested in my more low-effort content, like excerpts from my streams, or interviews, Q&A sessions, or even just me rambling about some topic etc.

I *think* most of this is all in my head, and it's not actually an external pressure, but, I don't really know for sure!

How do you feel about this? Do you prefer very infrequent high effort videos only, or do you vibe with lower effort videos as well?

@deciphers169

I think what i personally value more than the video quality is your ability to teach.

I like both! Infrequent masterpieces + frequent casual wisdom seems like a great combination to me. Ultimately I think there are a lot of people on here that will appreciate any knowledge you have to share.

I feel like this is a very common thing that occurs in the content creator (cc) space. Though in reality, some people follow a cc for their content while others might follow a cc for their personality. I personally am following you for the latter. The safest bet that you can do, both for viewers & your mental health in mind, is to make an alt / second channel dedicated for scrapped or low effort content where something that you want to share defaults there. Keep up the great work 💖

As a person that has learnt most of their math from the “stream videos” that you re-upload here, I say low effort videos as well. The high quality stuff is great. But the particular draw of your videos (in my case) is your ability to make complex math approachable by building up an intuitive understanding. Whether the lesson is accompanied by sketch and doodles from a stream, or high quality visualizations isnt a big deal, they are all great.

I’ve followed your math-related long videos (I guess those were stream recordings) and they were exceptionally engaging. Cannot suggest anything specific on the problem though. I can imagine how important it is to be proud of your work. In any regard, we’re here for you in a first place. Because you are very inspiring. So the more you post the better.

You DO NOT Need that high bar!!! You’re a treasure of not just good advice but good vibes as well and I’m quite sure I speak for the majority here saying we would absolutely love some lower effort content from time to time!

As someone who most enjoyed your “shaders for game devs” series, I far more appreciate what it is you’re teaching than the quality of the graphics accompanying them, or even the well-scripted-ness of how you present them. I appreciate a game’s graphics, especially when they’re really intentional and done well, but I love games like West of Loathing, Gnorp Apologue, and To The Core just as much, if not more, for the experience they bring in their gameplay loop and core mechanics. I feel very similarly for content on YouTube.

The thing you just described, about interviews, and Q&A, would be very interesting, and valuable for me to watch. I do quite often rewatch your recorded streams about linear algebra, vectors, and matrixes a lot, they are both valuable and entertaining. And your brilliant high-effort videos, they just a rare thing on the internet overall, and happen once in a decade, and the fact that you have done not just one in this amount of time is just crazy. And regarding conversational "real-time" videos, I wouldn't call them low effort, they are more "human" in regards to the form of telling, more regular, and normal videos we enjoy because of the content and the way you describe it. So I feel good about that!

@StarlitWitchy

What matters is the quality of the information in it, not the bells and whistles of good animation and stuff Not everything can be a continuity of splines and we totally understand that. What's important is that you're making stuff sustainably!!

For me personally, the quality and polish on some of your best videos were a huge inspiration for me so of course I do really like your super well presented and animated videos. That being said I would definitely enjoy the lower effort content too because the teaching value will be the same. Maybe a mix of both styles of videos would be good because I don't think anyone would be against slightly less polished videos since they still provide educational value!

@Stopa42

I personally like the several-hour stream-like videos such as the Shaders or Tool dev series the most. I got so much value out of them and I even bookmarked some parts that I refer to occasionally. The highest quality content like spline or bézier videos are awesome and they will definitely address a wider audience, but you can teach people a lot with lower effort as well.

@OmegaFalcon

Tbh I just vibe with whatever you do. Some of your videos have been of impressive quality, but it's always the content and knowledge you deliver that I love the most. It absolutely does not need to be presented with "polish"

@thedra9ongod

I personally love your videos and I think the quality is really good, too good, chill out lol. I also think that lower effort videos aren’t necessarily a bad thing and it could be fun to see more more casual videos too. Either way you don’t have to upload only really high quality content, if people don’t like the lower quality stuff they just won’t watch it, but those who will enjoy it will still click. Anyways I think you explain things very well regardless of the video quality (which is amazing) and would love to see more!

@theman7050

Anything explaining math concepts easily and other fundamentals is always precious, whether they be in excerpts from Discord or Twitch streams, or even something you want to share, while on a vacation, via a youtube short.

You are great Freja, your lectures are top notch. Dont be afraid of meeting expectations. Do it if you have time to spare. Haters gonna hate but who cares:).

@cton3d

Started following this channel because of your stream excerpts where you just explained different game math concepts. It’s not polished, but the quality of the content is still amazing, would love to see more stuff like this!

@ithaca_the_enby

I thoroughly enjoy your content even if I can’t justify watching it to the end. For example, the spline videos are great to watch but I’d love to see more frequent uploads covering other topics. Compromising video length and quality is perfectly fine if the breadth of your content makes up for it!

@PenguinAlex94

I value whatever you have to teach as there’s always a lot of wisdom in what you provide to the community. Whether it’s a tidbit from a stream or a longer more involved video. I’m here for it.

@Jadacakes

Absolutely love the low effort videos, so don’t stress too much about all the polish. The polished stuff is really cool and interesting and fun, but low effort is also fun in a different way!

@martoantoniuk

You could always upload them to a second channel made for that
