World Health Organization recognises November 18 to 24 every year as Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week and it is important we all amplify the story of this silent pandemic that is already amidst us. For the uninitiated - AMR is when microorganisms, like bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, become resistant to antimicrobial medicines, such as antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, and antiparasitics. This makes infections harder to treat, and can increase the risk of disease spread, severe illness, disability, and death.
Which is why at Good Food Movement we've decided to tackle the topic head on. Here's what we are doing:
1) A dedicated Instagram channel where we will be posting AMR-related content throughout the year. This will also be a space to learn what we can be doing to stop or at least slow down this free-fall. www.instagram.com/resisting.amr/
2) A separate section on our web portal with India-specific explainers and reports. Yup, we are very serious about this. gfm.akshayakalpa.org/read
This is just the beginning though. We are currently working on state-specific stories and we will collate it under 1 interactive map for all consumers to understand what's happening in their immediate neighbourhood. We are also gamifying AMR awareness and you will soon see it LIVE on our portal.
