October 2, 2024, From the Bible's Eyewitness History of the Jews, Acts 10:34-43 34 Then Peter opened his mouth and said, "Now I know for certain that God does not show partiality, 35 but in every nation he who fears him and works righteousness is accepted by him. 36 He sent his word to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. 37 You know what happened throughout all Judea, beginning in Galilee, after the baptism preached by John: 38 This is Jesus of Nazareth, on whom God anointed himself with the Holy Spirit and power. And he went about doing good works, and healed all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with him. 39 We are witnesses of all that he did in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him, hanging him on a tree. 40 But God raised him up on the third day and made him visible. 41 However, this is not for all people, but for us, witnesses whom God has chosen beforehand. We ate with Jesus after he rose from the dead. 42 Jesus commanded us to preach to the people and to bear witness that he is the one appointed by God to be the judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets also bear witness about him, that through his name everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins. Today's commentary. Peter's message (2) The death of Jesus. (The death of Yeshua.) "...I am referring to Jesus of Nazareth, on whom God has anointed the Holy Spirit and power..." The introduction of Jesus begins with John the Baptist. 1. John the Baptist baptized people with water, but God baptized Jesus with the Holy Spirit. ② "God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power" (New Revised Standard Version 2017). Although the word Messiah does not appear, this is a messianic declaration. God declared that Jesus was the Messiah (the anointed one). ③ This is the fulfillment of Isaiah 61:1-2. As a result, Jesus performed many miracles and healings. "We are witnesses of all that Jesus did in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, and they killed him by hanging him on a tree." (1) The apostles are witnesses to Jesus' public life. Furthermore, they are witnesses to the Jews' crucifixion and murder. (2) Peter had previously held the Jews responsible for killing Jesus three times (Acts 3:15, 4:10, 5:30). (3) Stephen also denounced the Jews in the same way (Acts 7:52). Resurrection of Jesus "But God raised him up on the third day and made him appear to us..." (1) But God raised him up on the third day. (2) Jesus limited the number of people to whom He would appear (about 500 people according to 1 Corinthians 15:6). Exodus shows that unbelievers will not believe in God even if they see miracles. Luke 16:31 teaches, "If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded if someone rises from the dead." (3) The apostles ate with the resurrected Jesus. The resurrected Jesus was not a vision, but had a body. "Jesus commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead..." (1) Jesus gave the apostles the Great Commission. (2) Peter introduced Jesus as the "Judge of the living and the dead" without quoting the Messianic prophecies, with the Gentile audience in mind. He used the term "Judge" instead of "Messiah." The only way to escape the judgment of the "Judge" is to believe in his name. We have been delivered from God's wrath by faith in Jesus. Today's Prayer Heavenly Father God, we thank you for the forgiveness of our sins and for the peace you have given us through the grace of your Son Jesus. Today too, we will walk by faith. We pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. October 2, 2024, Gospel for the poor. Isaiah 61, the prophet of Israel. 61:1  The Lord has anointed me; the Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; he has sent me to preach good news to the poor. To bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to those who are bound. 61:2  To proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, the day of vengeance from our God, to comfort those who mourn. 61:3  To give to those who mourn for Zion a crown instead of ashes, an ointment of joy instead of mourning, and garments of praise instead of gloomy hearts. They will be called oaks of righteousness, planted by the Lord for the splendor of the Lord. 61:4  They will rebuild the ruins of eternity, and raise up the sites of ancient desolation. They will renew the ruined cities, the sites of pasture. 61:5  Strangers will stand and pasture your sheep, and foreigners will till your fields and tend your vineyards. 61:6 You will be called priests of the LORD, ministers to our God; you will enjoy the wealth of the nations and their glory. 61:7 You will receive double reproach; you will inherit double in the land, and you will have everlasting joy. 61:8 I, the LORD, love justice, and hate the plundering of offerings. I will reward their labors in faithfulness, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. 61:9 Their generation will be known among the nations, and their descendants among the peoples; all who see them will acknowledge that this is the generation blessed by the LORD. 61:10 I will rejoice in the LORD, and my soul will rejoice in my God. He will clothe me with the garments of salvation, and clothe me with the garments of his righteousness. He will crown me with a shining crown like a bridegroom, and adorn me with jewels like a bride. Those who hate the injustice of this wicked world and stand for righteousness, even if they are poor, are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. Messiah Yeshua spoke in the Sermon on the Mount. The Book of Isaiah also has similar words. According to tradition, Isaiah was also killed by being cut to pieces with a saw. Many prophets throughout history who proved their truth, denounced injustice, and warned people to repent of their sins have been persecuted and killed. In modern times, those who preach the gospel are persecuted by those who side with the lies of this world. This is also God's grace. God is always truth and light. Not the dark side of lies. Those who follow Yeshua Hamasia are those who follow the truth. God has given them the grace of having the light shine on their evil deeds and making them realize their own sins. Those who fear God will leave evil deeds. Those of darkness will not come to the light. They are those who love evil deeds. For they hate the light: and so the judgment of God is come, because of the gospel.
