It runs in my family, and I’m the only one getting treatment 😑

I'm pretty sure my mother was bipolar. But mental illness wasn't discussed in the 70s when I grew up. I'm now 59 and only was diagnosed in my mid 40s. So many lost years all because I wasn't able to get treatment. Didn't have the money and had no clue how to get treatment. I'm grateful to be alive now with proper medication and the knowledge on how to deal with bipolar.

What great timing you have. Just found out yesterday that it does, and literally no one ever thought to mention it to each other or doctors. I am trying not to go down the spiral of how different would my life be if someone had just said something 20 years ago.

Yes on my mother's side hard slightly on my father's. Never spent much time with my mother's family but at Christmas I would see my uncle billy and always loved him. Turns out I act a lot like he use to. But now He's is one of the most compassionate and understanding people I know. ♥️

It does, but my knowledge of it is hazy due to family history. I know my cousin has bipolar type 1 (I'm type 2). My grandmother died before I was born and she was on anti-psychotics, but that's all I know. She had illegitimate children who she gave away and I know one of them committed suicide. And don't even start on all the alcoholics in the family... By what I know, I'd say I'm the only one who has very actively worked on my issues, seeked therapy etc.

Nope, had a near death experience … attacked by a thief with a crowbar in New Zealand .. managed to push him away … yet half way through the fight .. something clicked in my brain & my behavior changed ever since …

I don’t know. My mom sister and aunt on moms side have had depression. But apparently I’m the only one that has bipolar 🤷♀️ but I did have a lot of childhood trauma. Who knows. I’m just glad I finally found the right medication

Depression and anxiety runs on my immediate Maternal side of the family but l find it interesting that on my Paternal side l have 1 second cousin that has bipolar 1, another has bipolar 2 and another has severe OCD. I have bipolar 1.

On my maternal side, my great-grandmother on my grandmother's side was 44 y/o and in a state hospital where she committed sui€¡{|€ and my maternal great-grandfather on my grandfather's side hanged himself at 19 to dodge the draft. On my paternal side, we're really not sure, but I've been told my grandfather's mother's committed parish. My mother was bipolar as well.

My mother's side of my family is well known for being batshit crazy... we embrace it & celebrate it! Can't dance....might as well have my fun....

My brother and my mother my cousin and my uncle. I feel like my dad too, he flies off the handle very quickly. I feel like the reason I am because the way I am is mainly because of my dad. He went through a lot of verbal and physical abuse, almost torment, I still got a fraction of the generational abuse but nothing to the torture he went through. He has so many demons

My mother and her sister had bipolar disorder. My mother's father's sister had it. She and my mother took their own lives. My father's brother had it. I have it. My son has it.

On my biological father’s side. They’ve got OCD, severe agoraphobia (one of my aunts hasn’t left her house in around 35 years and requires family and caregivers to do practically everything), more bipolar disorder, psychopathy, addiction, violence, etc. Needless to say, I do not associate with that side of my biological family at all.
