The sharpening is wild. Should be an option to turn it off altogether without having to shoot raw and use more memory space

Hey Tyler, interesting you chose jpeg-xl lossy instead of lossless. Can you do a video comparing both? Today I did some pixel peeping for lossy vs lossless, and while there are very minor differences, it is not worth the extra storage costs. Not sure on pushing color and exposure. Thank you!

I wish they added a sharpness slider for non-ProRAW photos, just like all the existing sliders.

So psyched that JPEG-XL came to iPhone. Lowkey one of the best things to come, and it didn’t even get an announcement.

Exactly! The sharpening on the iPhone is a disease. To be fair it’s optimized for being watched on a tiny screen. On a big screen, it looks like shit. It’s beyond comprehension that the sharpening is not adjustable in the “photographic styles”

I typically just shoot and auto edit all my photos lol. They look great to me! Especially ones with good light. I usually don’t need to edit the low light ones. Auto edit is awesome on iPhone! 14 Pro. Wouldn’t mind a comparison breakdown though of the differences!

Agree. The JPEG is nothing but NASTY! And it looks like with the 16 line they’ve dialed that nastiness even up.

Can you get the same results with the Normal iPhone 16 and Halide app or does it only work on the pro?

Yep, that’s why I set the default to proraw on my 12pro, zero regrets!

Can of ridiculous but very Apple that you have to buy PRO iPhone to turn features off 😅

BTW, if you truly wanna get rid of any of those over processed looks, try Lampa photo app.

Some of you photographers must understand that Apple is creating a default output for the vast majority(over 99%) of users who want something straight out of the camera that looks "good". The very few of you who don't like the default can't impose your ideology of what processing should be done on the rest of the user base. It's a good thing that there are options for those of you who want to tweak the output to your liking. Just leave the defaults alone for the real target audience and stop pressuring these companies to submit to your preferences.

Is the raw on the default camera turning off all processing like Halide’s process zero or is it just reducing sharpness?

Somebody knows... Was it already possible with iphone 15 pro to shoot dng photos?? And is it possible to edit them straight in lightroom on iphone?

Forget resolution. The real reason to shoot raw on the iPhone 16 Pro is to REDUCE sharpness and make the sensor be behave like a real camera.
Left: 48mp DNG (JPEG-XL Lossy, 100% zoom)
Right: 24mp HEIC (Tone -50, 200% zoom)
