Visit With Us (Rich and Helen)

We very often get asked ‘Why don’t you have over a hundred thousand/million subscribers, your content deserves it.’

THIS is why (see picture of a post by VidIQ this morning).

We don’t do negative click bait. We prefer positivity over negativity. We try and celebrate the joy of cruising over nit picking and overt criticism. Many viewers save all year for their dream cruise. We’re here to build their excitement and prepare them for a Really. Good. Time. 🥳

We could design a negative edge into our thumbnails and titles, and most of our YouTube peers who use that strategy generally do very well indeed. Hats off to them.

We’ve no doubt that after nearly five years of doing YouTube full time, we could’ve been two, three, ten times bigger. It’s a deliberate choice of ours not to follow that road. That choice is no doubt detrimental to our numbers, but very beneficial to our self satisfaction. It’s who we are.

We hope you enjoy our positive approach because we immensely enjoy making you smile. 🥰

R&H ❤️

@hecampbell77

I prefer your work over any of the others...it feels more "exclusive," if that's the right word. Classy and witty, and no manufactured drama...and btw my mother-in-law said your voice narration is very soothing. Soothing enough to convince her to get on her first cruise ship this August, apparently. :)

Dear Rich, Humbly speaking as a four-time Emmy Award winning Editor, you create the best produced travelog videos on YouTube. Your cinematography is top notch, your editing VO and music are fantastic, even your location sound is great! I have watched your videos for many years now and have seen the style change from strictly ship tours and dining guides, to a more personal video with your insights on destinations and cruise ship features. Now with Helen on camera as well, the channel has become a lovely story of you two setting on adventures across the globe enjoying the finer things in life. This is what sells potential cruisers on the luxury lines you highlight, not the "wacky hijinks", questionable "cruise tips", or crybaby "influencers" looking to capitalize on any small shortcoming on a ship. Besides, how bad can a luxury 5-star ship be? I think it would be quite difficult to throw a negative spin on the places you go and the things you do and have any kind of credibility. A while ago you asked “what cruise line should we travel on in the future. I responded by saying either Margaritaville or Disney, because those lines ae so different to than what you usually cruise on (although not so much with Disney). If you had criticisms of them, I’d fully understand and would be extremely interested in hearing them. I don’t think I’ll go on a Margaritaville cruise in a similar but opposite way I don’t think I’ll ever go on a Regent Seven Seas cruise, but hearing your take on a “budget” line would be supremely entertaining. Feel free to be as negative as you’d like on that one! 😜

@HelenBaird-j5d

That’s why I watch your vlogs. Don’t change. You are both relatable, the commentary is enjoyable to listen to, I can’t wait til I book my 1st river cruise in Europe & it’s due to you both showing how enjoyable it is.

Hey Helen and Rich, I say maintain course and full steam ahead! I simply love the way you narrate the videos and the music choice to pair with the videos are fabulous. Please don't change who you are. Warm wishes Erika from sunny Perth Australia 🇦🇺

Thank you for maintaining your principles and taking an ethical approach to your title pages. I refuse to click on anything that employs the tired ‘you’re doing this wrong’ or ‘shocked’ titles but clearly it works for some.

I subscribe to your channel because of the quality of your work, your great locations and the wry sense of humor. Your content gives me valuable and inspiring information to make an intelligent choice on a next vacation. Thank you for keeping your values true.

@izengolf1

I absolutely love your content and can trust that it is honest, respectful and well considered, especially if you go into "Moan Mode" 😄. In the past few months I've seen you enjoy everything from inside cabins on Queen Anne to an obstructed ocean view on Azamara Quest to the most divine suite on Regent Seven Seas and your reviews have encompassed the whole ship and experience, not just the bathroom or decor. I appreciate that because a vacation is so much more than the room! No suite will fix terrible service or food the moment the guest steps out the door. Bravo and keep doing what you do

Keep it classy and real Rich & Helen. I mailed Ben and David and mentioned that they were using clickbait thumbnails and headers to grab numbers. Now I like B & D so please don't judge here but I like honesty and thats why this channel continues to grow.

Thank you for that. I noticed quite a few cruise you tubers do that. It really is annoying 😞

Good for you guys. The gurning faces and disaster laden headlines (that then mostly don’t manifest in the content) really puts me off. Stick with what you do, but if you do need to get click baity double down on the positive!

Don't get discouraged. I see some of those titles and simply skip them. However, consider that many of us, your viewers, are not interested in trips we know we will never be able to afford, and those who can, probably don't spend time on YouTube 🙄

It is the same reason my channel is growing slow. I don't do click bait. The people who subscribe are here for the right reasons.
