The historic Roanoke River Lighthouse was built in 1886 and went into service the following year guiding ships in Albemarle Sound into the Roanoke River. After being decommissioned in 1941, it was actually moved. Thanks to the Edenton Historical Commission and donations, the lighthouse was restored and returned home.
