Major Khushboo Patani

Indian Army Day is celebrated every year on 15th January to honor the valiant soldiers of India and mark a significant milestone in the nation’s military history.

On this day in 1949, Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa, then a Lieutenant General, became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, taking over from General Sir Francis Roy Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief.

This transition symbolized the end of colonial influence and the beginning of a new era for India’s military.

The day is celebrated with parades, medal ceremonies, and tributes to fallen soldiers at the Amar Jawan Jyoti.

It reminds us of the Indian Army’s dedication to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and their pivotal role in ensuring peace and security, both during war and natural calamities.

Indian Army Day is a celebration of patriotism, discipline, and the relentless courage of our armed forces.
