in the beginning i was just like anybody else: i made music just because it was fun.
is joy something you can hear in someone else’s music? i think so. i think people could hear how carefree i was.
it’s funny how easily you can get away from that feeling. other people’s rules get stuck in your head. you start worrying if your joy was ever good enough in the first place.
one of the reasons i love working with Lokoy is he makes me feel comfortable being myself again. we made “oopsie” and “alchemy” at my house, very quickly and drunkenly and instinctively, using a busted Casio keyboard we found in my garage. we let the music tell us what it wanted to be about, and how it wanted to be structured. it was the first time i had freestyled in forever.
what are these songs? i still don’t quite know. but i know how they make me feel, and i know how i want them to make you feel too.
